<pie_[bnc]> hmm this might be interesting, KISS? <q3k> i'm also really impressed that bsc seems to have basically zero hackage deps <q3k> not even Control.Lens
<tnt> Does anyone know how the spartan 7 fabric compares to the artix 7 fabrix speed wise ?

<whitequark> wait, what's the difference then
<daveshah> Spartan 7 has no transceivers iirc
<daveshah> (although there are already some Artix 7 packages that lack transceivers)
<mwk> correct
<mwk> depending on the exact chip, it's either a cut-down version of artix 7 fabric that has no transceivers anywhere, or an actual artix 7 chip with transceivers disabled
<tnt> mwk: ok, I thought so from the spec (LCs / ...) but but wasn't 100% sure. tx for confirming.

<azonenberg_work> whitequark: basically spartan7 is the successor to spartan6 LX
<azonenberg_work> and artix7 is the successor to spartan6 LXT
<azonenberg_work> however, spartan7 was introduced kinda late in the game and i don't think was originally planned
<azonenberg_work> So some of the smaller artix7 packages don't have the GTPs bonded out
<azonenberg_work> imo those would have been better branded as spartan7 to avoid confusion
<mwk> the transceiverless artix were originally to be branded 7aXXX (as opposed to 7aXXXt with transceivers)
<mwk> it seems at some point they decided to recycle the spartan name instead
<mwk> also, "successor" in the market sense, yes
<mwk> but technology-wise, spartan 6 is a dead end, and spartan/artix/kintex/virtex 7 are all very close successors to virtex 6

<azonenberg_work> well yes
<azonenberg_work> spartan6 was xilinx's windows ME
<azonenberg_work> The low-end product so bad they killed it off
<azonenberg_work> and everything from then on was cut down versions of the high end product
