<abananabread> m....
<abananabread> i am installing armbian bionic instead of buster on my nanopi m4v2
<abananabread> because friendlyelec dont have a buster image
<abananabread> not a big difference right...?

<abananabread_> damn i can't get my nanopi to boot
<abananabread_> with the eflasher image provided
<abananabread_> z..z.z.z.z.z.zz.z
<Werner> Try legacy image for the m4v2 and use etcher to write the sd card.
<abananabread_> ok i will try the eflasher core version
<abananabread_> and etcher
<abananabread_> i was following friendlyelec's offical guide...
<abananabread_> z.z.z.z.z.z 2.5hrs battling the installer
<abananabread_> man.. armbian is a lot bigger than raspbian
<abananabread_> but.. i don't think raspbian works on nanopi
<Werner> We cant help you with 3rd party images anyways
<abananabread_> by the way @Werner, I want to use Buster, but i don't know how to install it onto the eMMC module.
<abananabread_> which is why, i'm still trying the image provided by FriendlyElec
<Werner> There is a script shipped with Armbian that will do the install for you. I think it is nand-install or something
<Werner> nand-sata-install
<abananabread_> ?
<abananabread_> so... you mean
<abananabread_> i should install buster, and then type
<abananabread_> or execute nand something like that?
<Werner> Yes. You can find some more information in the documentation
<Werner> .rtfm
<ArmbianHelper> Check out our awesome documentation! It's tremendous, promise! https://docs.armbian.com/
<abananabread_> thank you Werner
<Werner> You're welcome

<abananabread_> ...... the pi's ip address is not showing
<Werner> What do you mean? Does ethernet not come up?
<abananabread_> its ip adress does not show up from my lan router menu
<Werner> Depending on your sd card it may take a while until the filesystem fully expands over the whole sd card at first boot. Thats the reason the first startup usually takes a bit longer than average.
<abananabread_> oh..... uh oh...
<abananabread_> i kept disconnecting the power cable
<abananabread_> i didn't know that
<abananabread_> i should do it over again

<Werner> However you always can connect via UART to check whatever is happening
<abananabread_> i didn't order the uart XD
<abananabread_> im too noob...
<abananabread_> sigh.. this is rough
<Werner> It is always a good idea to have an USB UART adapter when dealing with SBCs because if anything goes wrong this is your last chance to get on the board via serial console and maybe fix what is wrong.
<Werner> You get them for very cheap anyways.
<abananabread_> hmm... i just tried again.. still can't find the ipaddress
<abananabread_> i cannot ssh if i dont have the ip right..?
<Werner> Nope
<Werner> Try different SD card and different power source since those are also common issues.

<abananabread_> ...... nothing works
<abananabread_> i dont have another card
<abananabread_> tried a different psu

<Werner> abananabread: you should get both one or multiple spare sd cards and an USB UART adapter. There is no other way to get into the board to see whats the issue.
<abananabread> damn..
<abananabread> i'm giving up on this board
<Werner> You can ask in forums if someone else has this board and issues fireing it up with the latest legacy Buster image.
<Werner> However I am pretty confident that the issue is somewhere on your side. Broken SBC, broken SD, bad power, bad patchcabel...whatever it is there is no way to dig further without serial console access.

<abananabread> :0
<abananabread> i got the ip address
<abananabread> i held the power button on the m4v2 for 30 seconds, continue to hold while unplugged, and 30 more seconds after replugged
<abananabread> now i can ssh, and access Armbian
<Werner> No idea why this worked for you but glad you could figure it out.
macc24 has joined #armbian
<abananabread> yeah, i saw another board by friendlyelec ( it was suppose to be a router SBC)
<abananabread> and i had nothing else left to try
<abananabread> so i copied the hard reset method.
<Werner> I still strongly recommend to pickup an USB UART adapter somewhen in future ;)
<abananabread> yes yes that is probably a good idea
<abananabread> ummm...
<abananabread> what do i do now once i have got armbian buster (legacy)..
<abananabread> apt get update & then try docket and portainer..
<abananabread> docker*
<Werner> That is up to you.
<abananabread> i hope omv works...
<Werner> I dont know about the current OMV status. The last thing I read was that there are issues with Buster but Stretch worked. Maybe this has been solved in the meantime.
<abananabread> hmm...
<abananabread> i see....
<abananabread> do you suggest i run omv in docker/portainer?
<abananabread> i have never used omv before..
<abananabread> ohh.... right i need to put everything into eMMC first..
<abananabread> :S i might break something again.
<Werner> You do not have to use emmc. If it runs fine from sd just leave it.
<Werner> I have no experience with OMV.
<abananabread> okay, i will leave emmc alone in the mean time.
<abananabread> https://docs.docker.com/engine/install/debian/ <= can i follow these instructions for docker installation?
<abananabread> uh oh...
<abananabread> i sudo reboot, now the board is not available anymore..
<Werner> No idea
<Werner> If you do not use it anyways for now try removing the emmc module and power up again
<IgorPec> good morning

<abananabread> thank you IgorPec, i will take baby steps

<abananabread> yes yes yes... i'm using a massive powersupply to power this board now
<abananabread> as long as it works i dont care

<IgorPec> sorry, your are asking for support at a wrong place. we have nothing to do with OMV
<IgorPec> software installation is not our problem. we deliver clean debian / ubuntu
<abananabread> ok..
<abananabread> how do i uninstall these softwares
<IgorPec> is your board working?
<IgorPec> there our support ends
<IgorPec> we are just a few.
<abananabread> ok
<IgorPec> OMV software or anything you install on your computer is not armbians domain

<valoga> any thoughts on noop vs deadline vs cfq as IO scheduler with an mmc sdcard?
<IgorPec> yeah, our defaults are considering this
<valoga> IgorPec: ok great
<valoga> oh, if I'm not mistaken then it appears to be BFQ that is used
<IgorPec> sorry, i don't recall without looking
<IgorPec> we sort this out 7-8 years ago
<valoga> unfortunately my platform only supports kernel 4.4 so I don't have access to BFQ
<valoga> although I do find it curious that some of my sister boards (odroid-*) appear to be supported
<valoga> and with kernel 5.x it appears - even though upstream only has kernel 4.x...
<buZz> afaik bfq is quite a lot older
<buZz> cfq*
<valoga> indeed it is
<buZz> maybe just wasnt enabled in the kernels you used?
<epsilonKNOT> hey ya'll
<epsilonKNOT> i'm getting my armbian stuck at starting kernel
Tenkawa has joined #armbian

<Werner> epsilonKNOT, try to enable verbose output and check console via UART
ed_peguillan has joined #armbian
<Tenkawa> todays fun.... reverse engineer the 8821CU network/bt dongle driver to compile in armbian
<Tenkawa> the makefile was "not" designed for arm 64 bit
<epsilonKNOT> Werner: how would I enable verbose output?
<epsilonKNOT> It is not booting up
<epsilonKNOT> i am connecting via uart so that part is done

<epsilonKNOT> lol
<epsilonKNOT> will do

<epsilonKNOT> am used to having documentation offline sorry
<Tenkawa> Werner: docs???? is that Emmitt Brown?
<epsilonKNOT> thanks for the info tho
<epsilonKNOT> will be back soon
<epsilonKNOT> :)
<Werner> Not sure about that Tenkawa
<Tenkawa> you know the reference right?
<Werner> I know the movies
<Tenkawa> ok
<Tenkawa> just wanted to make sure I wasnt "too" ancient
<Werner> Kind a gap in education not knowning them ;)
<epsilonKNOT> i dont get it
<Tenkawa> epsilonKNOT: was just a bad joke
<Tenkawa> never said I was funny
<Tenkawa> \
<Tenkawa> heheheh
<epsilonKNOT> yo, so i enabled verbosity, which magically made my device boot up
<epsilonKNOT> i think it got scared
<epsilonKNOT> anyway for some reason now i am unable to send any text for some reason
<epsilonKNOT> so this is the error log i get
<Guest47968> rockpro64 login: [ 34.499351] cdn-dp fec00000.dp: Direct firmware load for rockchip/dptx.bin failed with error -2
Guest47968 is now known as dd10
<Tenkawa> looks like you are missing that file in /lib/firmware/rockchip
<epsilonKNOT> ok, i've managed to narrow it down
<epsilonKNOT> it started working but bootconsole uart0 is disable
<epsilonKNOT> i can't login in uart0
<epsilonKNOT> does this enable it at boottime?
<epsilonKNOT> like i want to be able to login using uart0
<epsilonKNOT> but i can't
<epsilonKNOT> found this
veremitz has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Werner> I have no experience with boards besides sunxi family but UART0 should be enabled across all boards.
<Tenkawa> epsilonKNOT: I didnt catch the beginning.. which board are you working on?
<epsilonKNOT> am using the rockpro64
<Tenkawa> i have heard which ones are enabled but I cant remember anymore.. unfortunately its not one I work on either.
<epsilonKNOT> this is the link for the log
<Tenkawa> let me take a look
<Tenkawa> I did a lot of uart on the rpi
<Tenkawa> so maybe it will give me some insight at least
<Tenkawa> oh
<Tenkawa> it looks like you need to enable a getty
<epsilonKNOT> thanks a lot
<Tenkawa> from that output
<epsilonKNOT> how would i do that/
veremitz has joined #armbian
<Tenkawa> do a ps auxwww and grep getty
<Tenkawa> can you access it at all?
<Tenkawa> ssh in?
<epsilonKNOT> nope
<Tenkawa> darn..
<epsilonKNOT> yea, total lockout
<Tenkawa> armbian uses systemd so need to figure out a way to enable uart0
<Tenkawa> let me look on my odroid here
<epsilonKNOT> cant boot paramenters work?
<Tenkawa> it should
<Tenkawa> thats what I'm checking
<epsilonKNOT> thanks
<epsilonKNOT> :)
<epsilonKNOT> am using the legacy kernel
<epsilonKNOT> if thats any issue
<epsilonKNOT> 4.4
<Tenkawa> k.. checking something from the debian world
<epsilonKNOT> yea, am not sure if this is a legacy issue or armbian
<Tenkawa> intriguing
<Tenkawa> what are your current boot console settings ?
<epsilonKNOT> where can i find these
<Tenkawa> just a sec
<epsilonKNOT> am sending boot log, 1sec
<Tenkawa> is that one sd card based or flash based?
<epsilonKNOT> booting from usdcard
<epsilonKNOT> microsd card
<Tenkawa> it would be in a something like armbianenv.txt
<epsilonKNOT> this is the bootlog
<Tenkawa> k
<epsilonKNOT> i am getting the boot messages on the uart0 but am unable to send any thing
<epsilonKNOT> like cant type
<Tenkawa> ok so good... the machine comes up
<Tenkawa> this is a comm issue
<Tenkawa> this is much easier to fix
<epsilonKNOT> am using minicom
<Tenkawa> we just need to get speed duplex/bits correct
<Tenkawa> what speed buts etc you using?
<Tenkawa> er bits
<plntyk> console [ttyS2] enabled bootconsole [uart0] disabled
<epsilonKNOT> with command in the new logs it is enabled
<epsilonKNOT> line 10 at : http://dpaste.com/2ASQ3CG
<Tenkawa> heheheh
<dd10> minicom -D /dev/ttyUSB0 -b 1500000
<Tenkawa> yeaon
<Tenkawa> ok
<epsilonKNOT> thats the minimcom line
<Tenkawa> change your minicom settings to this
<Tenkawa> just a sec while I build them
<epsilonKNOT> haha, np
<plntyk> lin 10 enable , line 276 disable
<epsilonKNOT> plntyk: wth, legit???
<epsilonKNOT> wth
<epsilonKNOT> why???
<plntyk> its your log i am only posting
<epsilonKNOT> indeed
<epsilonKNOT> u did some magic
<epsilonKNOT> FIX IT
<epsilonKNOT> :p
<epsilonKNOT> jk, but yea not sure what is happening
<dd10> i think we offended it so it went back into it's shell
<epsilonKNOT> this is the armbianEnv file: http://dpaste.com/05FXMDJ
<epsilonKNOT> ah seems like my friend has to leave
