lol right, UART2 is the rockchip default, and it isn't exposed on this board

<ArmbianHelper>
great, adjective, synonym for Armbian
<IgorPec>
macc24: i don't know that its not working
<IgorPec>
lanefu: hey
<macc24>
IgorPec: >@IgorPec it doesn't work. well, something must be wrong then ... need reseracj
<IgorPec>
this can easily takes months before anyone will look
<IgorPec>
use kernel where this function works. I am sure in some older kernel this works fine.

Giving up on the Tinker Edge R for the moment, this lack of debug uart is killing me. Meson64 test time
<IgorPec>
Tinker Edge what's that :)
<IgorPec>
TonyMac32: i did basic tests, it boots, audio would be nice to check since that was working in 5.4.y, right?
e-i-k-e has joined #armbian
<Tonymac32>
Right, audio is on the list of "to check".
<Tonymac32>
Our patches have become a bit chaotic, so I'll probably step through them again as well for good measure
<IgorPec>
yeah, that would be awesome! I also plan one day to do that on Allwinner
<Tonymac32>
I am scraed of our allwinner folder, so I don't touch it. :P
<Tonymac32>
Oh, unrelated, do you have an N2?
<IgorPec>
yes
<Tonymac32>
I tried to use a WiFi and SSD on the USB3 ports, and crashed machine. Logs show the voltage dropped out, it doesn't look like that board comes even close to the current requirements for a single USB3 port, let along 4
<IgorPec>
i didn't done that much tests yet
<IgorPec>
but I hear people report problems also on legacy kernels
<Tonymac32>
I was trying to relocate it and free up a LAN port. Obviously that didn't happen
<IgorPec>
after I add 48 port switch i am good for some time ;) with rj45
<Tonymac32>
I think it's just power distro, as soon as you add a little load the USB devices start disappearing/reappearing, my little tester showed a dip below 4.5 volts
<IgorPec>
yes, this lately become his favorite spot, tail is on Rock64 :)
<IgorPec>
and heated by 3 switches in the ass
<IgorPec>
so you can recreate the problem by some load and voltage on USB ports jus drops?
<IgorPec>
so perhaps a wifi and M2 SSD should trigger that, right?
<IgorPec>
load average: 1045.60, 301.06, 104.05

* nekomancer[m]
tries to use custom .dtbo given on forum for N2. get dtbo from .dts, copy both file into `/boot/overlay-user`, set `user_overlays=odroid-n2-rtc` into `armbianEnv.txt`.
* nekomancer[m]
Not work :(
* nekomancer[m]
Why?
<Tonymac32>
we don't have the vendor kernel I think
<Tonymac32>
so the overlay is possibly referencing a handle that doesn't exist for the overlay
<Tonymac32>
it is conjecture, you'd need to see if you can grab u-boots output on boot
<nekomancer[m]>
this overlay works if I copy it into `/sys/kernel/config/device-tree/overlays/i2c3a/dtbo` with cp
<nekomancer[m]>
I have no connector to connect UART :(((
<Tonymac32>
hmmmmmm
<Tonymac32>
what is the full name of the overlay?
<nekomancer[m]>
maybe, anybody can recommend N2 compatible UART connector on aliexpress?
<nekomancer[m]>
now I rename file to odroid-n2-rtc.dtbo
<nekomancer[m]>
does filename matter?
<Tonymac32>
well, how it is referred to in the armbianEnv.txt does, hang on a second
<nekomancer[m]>
referenced as user_overlays=odroid-n2-rtc
<Tonymac32>
usually for overlays the prefix is added by the script, but the N2 I think uses the U-boot of the encients
<Tonymac32>
ancients*
<Tonymac32>
typing impaired over here
<nekomancer[m]>
i read in doc that no prefix used for user overlays. only for systec.
<Tonymac32>
it's probable that overlays aren't enabled on N2 bootloader just yet, u-boot 2015.1 is still the official Amlogic stuff
<Tonymac32>
It needs pulled into Meson64, somebody was supposed to be working on that... :/
* Tonymac32
oops
<Tonymac32>
I will attempt to fix that today
<nekomancer[m]>
wow!
<Tonymac32>
the instructions are actually in mainline u-boot how to do it
<Tonymac32>
:P
<nekomancer[m]>
🥺
<Tonymac32>
just need to actually do it in the context of our build script
<Tonymac32>
You have to generate the firmware files by compiling the crusty vendor u-boot, then keep them safe with reference to where they came from, and package them with the mainline u-boot

<Tonymac32>
you need 14 firmware files for these, ffs Amlogic
<nekomancer[m]>
horror
<Tonymac32>
annoying mostly
<c0rnelius>
the fips?
<c0rnelius>
its pretty simples but is lame
<Tonymac32>
yeah, all the ram handling is a firmware, the typical "you don't know what the processor is doing" power management firmware, etc
<Tonymac32>
I haven't sat down with the g12b to see if it's as bad as the GX(L), "I want 1.5 GHz" Processor: "OK Kernel, 1.5 GHz", Firmware blob, "Yeah right, 1.2"
<Tonymac32>
the DVFS is a very softly made suggestion at best on the kernels part, and it doesn't know the difference when it's being ignored
<lanefu>
yesh i'm beat from trying to be like igor all day
<lanefu>
have all my ARM stuff all neat and on a shelf now
<Tonymac32>
oof
<Tonymac32>
I saw a pull request concerning knocking the M4V2 down to 800 MHz ram blobs for stability, I thought the DMC was in mainline now, need to check
<Tonymac32>
C0rnelius yeah, I did it for all the other Amlogic boards we support (other than the C4 Neil added directly), it's just annoying to prep for
<c0rnelius>
Yeah I saw that. Kudos to Armstrong.
<c0rnelius>
And yeah you're right it is a pain in the ass. I still manage the amlogic bits way more than the rockchip ones. I really need to just sit down and try to figure out the rockchip uboot.
<Tonymac32>
actually glad I read the C4 commit, I think I can just call the same helper function. (left for some food there a while ago)
* Tonymac32
doesn't delete anything just yet though

<IgorPec>
tonymac32: you got C4?
<IgorPec>
IDK :)
<Tonymac32>
no, the commit by Armstrong has a g12 post process helper function
<IgorPec>
i tried to get more, but they said they are very limited
<Tonymac32>
and was set up to support g12b as well (N2)
<Tonymac32>
Yeah, we had a hard time getting me a C2 I remember
