<Tony_mac32> wading through kernel config, uuuugh. so, on x86 having config_nr_cpus higher than 64causes a performance hit, we have it set at 256. I'm going to try 16 since we don't have any 16 core processors around in our builds as yet
<Tony_mac32> I don't know if ARM has the same issue, but making an array for 148 non-existent processors seems extreme anyway
<Tony_mac32> 248*
<nekomancer[m]> why should be more than real threads? 4,6,8 — up to 16
<Tony_mac32> no idea, but it's at 256 (maybe a default value)

<IgorPec> that meson (C1)
<lanefu> Ohhhh gotcha
<IgorPec> which can be 5.6 without any questions
<lanefu> okay thanks
<IgorPec> for 64 i am not sure what to do
<IgorPec> tony is loosing it on auido :)
<IgorPec> i have one crazy idea to solve this problem
<IgorPec> meson64 is now odroid legacy kernel
<IgorPec> meson64-legacy could become 5.4, current 5.6.y and we add meson-g12 (4.9.y) for N2/C2
<lanefu> i think my concern is an existing C2 or lepotato user is using mesgon64-current.. they do an apt upgrade then audio goes away
<IgorPec> yeah, i am aware - then we deal with this after release
<IgorPec> geting stability across all platforms is already a big challenge
<lanefu> okay that's fair

<Tony_mac32> I had some random stuff still in my build that may not have belonged there, let me try another build and make sure what I have.
<Tony_mac32> OMG ok give me a few
<c0rnelius> mainline on the pi4 almost kind of works now.
<c0rnelius> its still well... a pi. but... funny.
<Tony_mac32> lol
<[TheBug]> funny haha or funny lame?
<[TheBug]> j/k lol
<[TheBug]> anyways
<c0rnelius> combo of both I'd say. But hey! at least its bootable and wifi works.
<c0rnelius> i wouldn't call home about it or anything. lets just say that.

<c0rnelius> rockin that rc6 goodness!
<Tony_mac32> never touched a Pi4, don't plan to. The 3 murdered my interest in that entire series of product
<c0rnelius> I didn't plan on getting one, but was helping out someone else whom was looking for a pure debian aarch64 experience on it. So at the end of the day I just said screw it and got one. I don't even use it for anything other than testing kernels and diff builds on it.
<IgorPec> why are you folks so obssessed with pur debian experience? :)
<Tony_mac32> Pure Debian. Pure 2016
<c0rnelius> I didn't realize it was an obsession?
<Tony_mac32> There are those out there obsessed
<IgorPec> ok, perhaps that is too strong word, but still
<c0rnelius> just no frills build is all
<lanefu> yeah i was talking to somebody on the crunch-on-arm discord
<Tony_mac32> I can def. see not having a Raspbian, there's a lot of stuff in there
<lanefu> and they were all excited about setting up u-boot uefi and installing plain debian
<IgorPec> yeah, raspbian is different
<Werner> Nobody likes bloatware I guess
<lanefu> yeah like ARMBIAN_MINIMAL bloat
<lanefu> :P
<IgorPec> haha
<lanefu> like you can run top. and it only takes half your screen
<lanefu> maybe less
<Tony_mac32> OK, so I am compiling another try at the audio, if you don't hear from me for a while you know what happened. :P
<IgorPec> keeping fingers crossed
<lanefu> Tony_mac32: sweet.. i'm holding off on rebasing
<IgorPec> if we fix this audio, merge it at once ;)
<Tony_mac32> ROFL
<c0rnelius> my only grip with Armbian is Network Manager, But i understand the need for it to be there.
<IgorPec> we might find another problem which would prevent that ;)
<IgorPec> yeah, NM is evil we need
<c0rnelius> its like my only grap with minimal ubuntu is netplan.
<IgorPec> netplan, what's that ? :)
<c0rnelius> something horrid
<c0rnelius> netplan.io
<lanefu> its also kinda awesome
<Tony_mac32> the patchset was split up into 3-4 sections due to how it was imported, so some boards have audio and some don't, unfortunately the ones with are not ones we support directly (VIM/the p212 eval doard)
<lanefu> cloud-init uses it
<IgorPec> i thought we removed it, but i guess this way is better
<lanefu> c0rnelius: netplan is sweet for complicated networking http://ix.io/2mJz
<lanefu> lacp nics and a bridge for qemu
<c0rnelius> lanefu: yeah I've heard that. Not so much for the average Joe though.
<lanefu> yes.. annoying for mortals
<lanefu> and i hate everyting that messes freaking dns
<lanefu> rage rage rage
<IgorPec> they try to be pro grade, but not sure how many people actually need to bother with
<c0rnelius> netplan is suppose to be the new normal or some dumb shit like that. i'm just not buying.
<IgorPec> pro grade stuff is NETCONF/YANG
<IgorPec> but for server, you don't need anything like that
<lanefu> yeah don't ask about my network
<lanefu> I have an LACP trunk to my garage
<IgorPec> :)
<lanefu> i should be getting a new router this weekend. woohoo
<IgorPec> what kind?
<lanefu> Ubiquti EdgeRouter 6P
<lanefu> I have an edgerouter lite currently..... which is still super fantastic
<IgorPec> sounds like similar to my RB4011
<IgorPec> seems like a great router. poe on all ports?
<lanefu> yeah but it's Ubiquity's janky 24V poe
<lanefu> i've got a 48-port tplink jetstream with POE for POE stuff
<IgorPec> me too, just not 48 port, 10 or 12 i think
<IgorPec> jetstream 2600 or something like that
<lanefu> yeah they're pretty great... I just didnt wanna pay for a unifi switch that all the nerds go for
<IgorPec> yeah. i have another 24 tplink but not peo, normal + 4 sfp
<lanefu> soooo... when you took that side-job about a year ago...... was that with MikroTik?
<IgorPec> no :) much more serious stuff
<IgorPec> aviat networks
* c0rnelius just noticed he mis-typed gripe twice in a row... smooth. swigs more beer.
<Tony_mac32> ha
<IgorPec> oh, probably not much more, there
<lanefu> haha. cool
<IgorPec> but its a bit different fokus, we don't do switching
<Tony_mac32> OK, sound is now showing up in the dmesg, but some errors
<lanefu> woohoo
<Tony_mac32> we'll see. :P
<lanefu> w.hooo

<IgorPec> ??? :)
<Tony_mac32> So I have an audio device, but I have no sound
<Tony_mac32> ...
<IgorPec> :( it must be something with speakers :)
<Tony_mac32> ha
<IgorPec> muted sound by default? :)
<Tony_mac32> with only 4-5 different patch series all manipulating the same files, who knows
<IgorPec> is there any quick known to work refference?
<Tony_mac32> nope
<IgorPec> at least DTBs? Librelec?
<Tony_mac32> the entire audio system was rewritten for 5.7
<IgorPec> aha, bummer
<Tony_mac32> they aren't using this version of the drivers
<IgorPec> then lets call it off
<IgorPec> what about this
<IgorPec> moving 5.4 -> legacy
<IgorPec> current = 5.6.y ... who will complain about audio, use legacy
<IgorPec> but we have to secure legacy for N2 / perhaps C4 ... Hardkernel maintain common branch
<Tony_mac32> hmmm, we could also just stick with 5.4 for now on current, I don't know of anything inherently wrong with it
<IgorPec> i totally fine with sticking with 5.4.y , there is some diff but I forget about
