<lanefu> IgorPec: sweet that worked... we can now comment !build on PRs to re-trigger build
<IgorPec> keyword "!build" when commiting will trigger a build of which part?
<lanefu> !build comment will trigger a re-build on a Merge request... instead of having to close and re-open https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/1887
<lanefu> turns out that was super easy :P

<IgorPec> ahaaa
<IgorPec> yeah :)
<IgorPec> i think i need a coffee. ...
<lanefu> so another quick question... i've seen somewhere that the build scripts will upload an image to somewhere when its done
<lanefu> is that just ofr build-all?
<lanefu> trying to think how I could tie that into our jenkins jobs
<lanefu> or if i should just let jenkins do it
<IgorPec> yes, build all do that
<IgorPec> but this script is troublesome ... i am patching it and patching
<lanefu> okay.. then lets keep it external
<IgorPec> this bug is known and related
<IgorPec> probably with Jenkins and proper usage of Docker we could improve this a lot
<lanefu> yeah defintely
macc24 has joined #armbian
<lanefu> i think further de-coupling kernel builds from image builds will help distribute workloads more
<lanefu> ironically because so much of the image build stuff is single threaded from qemu, the assembly of an image can be on something iwth fewer resources
<lanefu> and more ran in parallel
<IgorPec> that works in parallel
<IgorPec> i can build up to 30 images in parallel once i have the ingridients
<IgorPec> slowest process is building u-boot and bsp
<IgorPec> it creates bsp for all variants (stretct - focal) and u-boots for all enabled targets
<IgorPec> and kernel within. so the process sucks
<IgorPec> but once this is done, parallel image building works
<ArmbianTwitter> @David_GT (David Costa): @DieZuckerbude @orangepixunlong Could be, but in fact the SoC of the OPi Zero and the OPi Zero LTS is the same... Then the information is here... 🤔 I read many times this post from @armbian forum and an other one with more information related to that. Nothing clear. Hope @orangepixunlong can give more info! (6s ago)
<lanefu> oh does u-boot use qemu? didn't realzie it was slow
<IgorPec> no, u-boot is compiled the same way as kernel
<IgorPec> properly
<IgorPec> but the core problem here and witk kernel is that we do something with sources
<IgorPec> which means another paralel job will have troubles ... sources foulder needs to be separated
<IgorPec> pushed into docker container for example
<lanefu> right, patched clean sources are needed for each build
<lanefu> you may be on to something here....
<lanefu> trying to think through this some more
<lanefu> would you be interested in drawing a picture of the pieces?
<lanefu> as you envision them?
<IgorPec> of how it is done now, or how it should be done? (which i don't know very well=
<lanefu> just focus on breaking the components out the best you can, then we can figure out how to re-assemble after
<lanefu> so.. more liek howit should be done
<lanefu> ....but.. if you can make a picture of how its done.. that would also be super helpful to many
<IgorPec> ok, i will made a summary of how things are now, then we talk
<lanefu> awesome

<lanefu> what does single do in `compile.sh single`
Miouyouyou has joined #armbian
<IgorPec> single is an extra config
<IgorPec> like for building single images. perhaps its not needed
<Miouyouyou> Meow
<lanefu> meow
<IgorPec> but i think BUILD_ALL="yes" must be in the config , can't be called as a parameter
<IgorPec> Meow
<ArmbianTwitter> @DieZuckerbude (Ben Zucker 🍰): @David_GT @orangepixunlong @armbian As for me I have an #Orangepi zero (non-lts) labeled v1.1 and never had issues in this case. AFAIR the thermal issues started with the v1.2 and LTS boards labeled v1.5 seem to have them as well. (4s ago)
<Miouyouyou> @lanefu My patches are only valid for RK3288 boards. For other types, you'll need other PLL configurations, which I'm sure LibreElec have already digged out by now.
<Miouyouyou> Meanwhile, I got a message from the hosting company I was using to host my website, telling me they're dropping ARM VPS support at the end of the year because of "stability" issues. I was like "Hmm, yeah... I can understand..." :3
retropikzel has joined #armbian
<IgorPec> what kind of hardware do they have?
<Miouyouyou> Hmm, it's mostly ARMv7 and ARM64 but... let me check
<IgorPec> but specifically if you know?
<IgorPec> do they use some low end SBC or something better?
<Miouyouyou> Something better, I presume
<Miouyouyou> They're quite reknowned in the area
<Miouyouyou> The hosting company is named Scaleway
<Miouyouyou> Hmm, /proc/cpuinfo is not very talkative
<Miouyouyou> So is their dmesg
<lanefu> I thikn scaleway uses first generatin Cavium Thunder X
<lanefu> Miouyouyou: okay i'll try to figure out a good way to make note and keep track....... whats PLL? :P
<Miouyouyou> Yeah, I think it's that, but since I can't find back the info
<ArmbianTwitter> @David_GT (David Costa): @DieZuckerbude @orangepixunlong @armbian I think that thermal issue is solved with the v1.5 LTS; with Pi-Hole running all day, the SoC is really cold when I touch it with one finger. The problem are the measurements! (2s ago)
<Miouyouyou> lanefu, In that case, it's related to clocks speeds and how to get them. There's multiple mechanisms inside the board that allows you to select and boost or lower various clock sources.
<Miouyouyou> lanefu, The whole point is to have the "right" frequency where you need it.
<Miouyouyou> For example, for various HDMI resolutions, you need various different "pixel clocks" ( http://monitorinsider.com/cable_bandwidth.html )
<Miouyouyou> If the system can't provide the right clock, you either get no image or something "weird"
<Miouyouyou> And if you want more information about PLL in general, here it is : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phase-locked_loop#Clock_distribution
<ArmbianTwitter> @armbian (armbian): @btsfav @linux_plus_plus @thepine64 @ManjaroLinux You can build your own custom Armbian with an encrypted file system https://t.co/q5CvpPuFdv (1s ago)
