<Werner> "Unable to get valid context for root" is this new?
<IgorPec> where?
<Werner> Before login via serial on an OrangePi One
<IgorPec> haven't seen that before
<Werner> Me neither
<Werner> Used a trunk current buster image from two days ago
<IgorPec> bad sd media can cause strange things to happen
<IgorPec> i will check with one of mine
<Werner> Yeah. It is still everything working strangely
<Werner> Seems to be an issue with selinux from a quick search
<PPA> Is there a list somewhere of what's absent in the minimal CLI build versus the standard one?
<Werner> A list not sure but you can check the build script which packages besides the rootfs are installed at minimal
<PPA> Thanks

<IgorPec> PPA: and also here https://dl.armbian.com/_rootfs/
<PPA> Neat, thanks
<IgorPec> each rootfs has .list
<PPA> yeah, looking at one right now
<PPA> nicely readable in a column
<IgorPec> meld ready :)
<PPA> I was asking because I'm trying to build an image from source (disclaimer: new to all this, no idea what I'm doing but trial & error)
<PPA> I expected that at some point in the process I could choose a kernel version, but this was not the case
<PPA> (assuming there's a lot of adjustements needed to make thta work, which is why it's not an option by default)
<Werner> The build script builds the image from source for you :P
<PPA> Yeah, it's doing that
<PPA> (praise by the way for the script making it so easy and foolproof even for a total noob)
<PPA> I wanted to try out Cedrus in all its glory, but the prebuilt images (and the kernel version the script sets up) are 5.4.something, so I assume the 5.5 additions aren't in it?
<IgorPec> everything is already in the armbian 5.4.y kernel
<IgorPec> for about a year or so
<IgorPec> thats mainline kernel, which is far behind
<PPA> Ooh
<PPA> I didn't know the Armian kernel was different from mainline
<PPA> Thanks
<IgorPec> very different
<PPA> I see
<PPA> This is also turning out to be the first stresstest of my PC's entirely passive cooling
<PPA> +80.5°C so far :DDDD
<IgorPec> that's pretty decent
<IgorPec> i got more with water cooling ;)
<buZz> IgorPec: armbian has h265 hw decode in 5.4?

<IgorPec> great
<IgorPec> I have to get used to this search wonders ;)
<lanefu> thats out of master branch.. can't remember if sunxi-current is 5.4 or 5.6 now
<IgorPec> 5.4.y
<IgorPec> there are some activities to bump it

<ArmbianTwitter> @guidol70 (Guido Lehwalder): @armbian @IloveRockchip @radxa_oshw @hipboi_ I couldnt see (on the picture) a HDMI-port on the Rock Pi E :( (17s ago)
<PPA> Searching the forum for Cedrus-related threads, the most relevant ones were th following:
<PPA> Some discussion predates the addotopn of the h265 decoder in October 2019:
<PPA> also the gist of it seems to be that it's half-working at best (outside of Libreelec, where it works fine now)
<PPA> with people playing around with the kernel with mixed degrees of success
<ArmbianTwitter> @armbian (armbian): @guidol70 @IloveRockchip @radxa_oshw @hipboi_ Sorry for not being precise enough. Its a mini HDMI between USB-A and audio out. (16s ago)
<PPA> This guy seems to have gotten pretty far
<PPA> but it all seems hardly plug-and-play yet
<[TheBug]> what device and what are you trying to accomplish?
<IgorPec> dunno, i haven't tried
<PPA> [TheBug]: who?
<[TheBug]> you?
<PPA> Oh
<PPA> OPiPC, but I'm only trying to get an overview of what works, what doesn't, and how much effort it'd take to make it work
<[TheBug]> gotcha
<PPA> (the answers apparently being: not enough, a lot, too much for just playing around)
drobo_00 has joined #armbian
<PPA> When you're searching around you come across videos and wiki pages on fancy projects like Cedrus for hardware acceleration, Lima/Panfrost for 3D stuff, etc.
<PPA> but this gives the misleading impression to a layman that because these things exist and are floating in the mainline Linux kernel, they're useable
<PPA> Reading up on it, it seems there's a lot of unresolved problems in making them interface with commonly used software
<PPA> and that it can be done, but requires diving into it very deep
<ArmbianTwitter> @guidol70 (Guido Lehwalder): @armbian @IloveRockchip @radxa_oshw @hipboi_ ? What? :) the graphic at https://t.co/GXzzvQ5VaC says thats a USB-C Port (looks round like a USB-C also) https://t.co/I9M4bm92Kf (3s ago)

<IgorPec> lanefu: sheelcheck automated broke my (dirty) build-all ... what about? find . -type f -name "*.sh" ! -name build-all-ng.sh -exec shellcheck "{}" \;
<mrueg> IgorPec: anything wrong with the fixes I submitted there?
<IgorPec> yeah, something went wrong
<IgorPec> i just revert a part addressed to build-all-ng
<IgorPec> you can test by adding BUILD_ALL="yes" to userpatches/config-example.conmf
<IgorPec> not sure if its my dirty coding or bug in the shellcheck. You used a tool to convert?
<mrueg> IgorPec: converted by hand based on shellcheck recommendations
<mrueg> it looks I accidentally deleted a line here:
<mrueg> source "${SRC}/config/sources/families/${BOARDFAMILY}.conf"
<mrueg> - source "${SRC}/config/sources/${ARCH}.conf"
<mrueg> oh no I didn't
<mrueg> IgorPec: do you know where it's failing?
<IgorPec> add BUILD_ALL="yes" to basic config filer
<IgorPec> line 256,198 and 200
* mrueg looking
<mrueg> IgorPec: okay, will PR a fix.
<IgorPec> ok, i also noticed one functional problem but currently don0't know much
<IgorPec> yes, this problem is solved ... still trying to recreate the other one
<IgorPec> tnx

<IgorPec> or fix :)
<mrueg> IgorPec: the df line should be fine grep -c should be equal to grep | wc -l
<IgorPec> before it didn't go pass that line. will do another test once the real build finishes
<mrueg> IgorPec: I admit the pgrep part is a more adventurous change, I tested the command locally though
<IgorPec> also on build image i got E: Unable to locate package hostapd htop mmc-utils sunxi-tools
<IgorPec> not sure if this is related yet
<mrueg> IgorPec: that should come from lib/configuration.sh haven't touched that one yet

<lanefu> mrueg: hey you around?
<mrueg> lanefu: what's up? :)
<lanefu> looking at this PR.. had some stye questions
<mrueg> sure, what kind of questions?
<lanefu> as far as double quoting variables
<mrueg> so usually I go with "${VAR}" to be safe everywhere
<lanefu> yeah.. so when it's a paramater in acommand i noticed typically the entire string is encasupsulated
<lanefu> ex cp "${SOURCE}" "${DESTINATION_VAR}/static/value"
<lanefu> but i conditionals its just around teh var... ex: [[ -d "${DEST}"/images ]]
<mrueg> since the codebase is grown, I usually run a search and replace for vars that shellcheck reports on
<mrueg> both is fine, if you want to agree on a single style I can go with that as well
<mrueg> I usually prefer going over the entire string, something like "${DEST}"abc"${PKG}"def"{SUFFIX}" would look ugly
<mrueg> if $DEST becomes "${DEST}", then it's likely search and replace in my editor
<lanefu> ahh okay
<lanefu> yeah that makes sense..
<lanefu> -z $local_hash isn't quoted.. is that on purpose, or just circumstancial?
<mrueg> shellcheck didn't report on it that it needs to be
<mrueg> IIRC in general everything on RHS in [[ ]] won't cause any problems for quoting
<mrueg> my goal right now is to get the shellcheck warnings down to a number that makes it readable to focus on the important ones
<mrueg> so with the PR we're down from 4k lines to 2.5k lines output (which is still too much)
<mrueg> lanefu: number of shellcheck lines per file in lib/ https://bpa.st/O3VA hopefully I can take a look at debootstrap.sh and compilation.sh in the upcoming days
<lanefu> whoa
