adamgreig: I ran out of steam on the programming board and still did not test it out... I even have the connector and made an adapter to 100 mill but *still* did not test is out. Still a cool project

daveshah: is it possible for python to get the design input filename in nextpnr? or to pass any kind of parameter to a python script?
<daveshah>
No, that's a bit of a known issue atm
<daveshah>
You should be able to use environment vars and os.environ
<OmniMancer>
most inconvenient :/
<OmniMancer>
I guess I will live with everything being called blinky.fasm for now then
<OmniMancer>
what are decals in the context of nextpnr?
Thorn has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<OmniMancer>
okay so I have put the first bitstream that was pnr'd by nextpnr that I can tell works on my tang primer, but it literally just connects the button to the LED
<daveshah>
Nice! Can you pull latest nextpnr? I changed a LUT init issue last night that might fix your issues with more complex designs
<OmniMancer>
what was the issue
<OmniMancer>
I can update if needed
<OmniMancer>
I for now just got rid of the 18 bit counter dividing the clock since I am not sure ~150Hz is a good picorv32 clock speed to observe blinking
<OmniMancer>
ah the yoysys synth will not produce 16 bit wide INIT?
<OmniMancer>
I was just repeating the INIT bits until they were 16 bits wide

<OmniMancer>
I am checking with my changes to the attosoc, then I will update nextpnr
<OmniMancer>
I wonder if I may be running into the issue Icenowy mentioned in twitter that bitstreams from pnl files might not work, but I am unsure what exactly didn't work
<daveshah>
If you were already repeating init values then it's probably alright but might be worth updating so it's official
<daveshah>
That design blinks as fast as the picorv32 can, hence the 150Hz clock
<daveshah>
iirc
<daveshah>
There are some designs that display primes that have a delay loop
<OmniMancer>
ah, the bottom LED will blink as fast as possible?
<daveshah>
The picorv32 versa design is like that, iirc
<OmniMancer>
I have at most 3 LEDs so prime numbers are bit difficult to portray

<OmniMancer>
I am updating nextpnr now
<OmniMancer>
I had to remove another arc from the db
<OmniMancer>
I will move the fuzzing tiles to ones that have neighbours of both 1 span, 2span and 6span wires so that they should represent all tiles possibility
<OmniMancer>
does the generic backend have any gui support?
<OmniMancer>
how many clock cycles does picorv32 take to execute one instruction?
<OmniMancer>
daveshah: have you added the -auto-top to the hierarchy command in synth_generic.tcl yet?
<daveshah>
OmniMancer: no, I haven't added that yet
<daveshah>
picorv32 is usually 2-4 ish CPI
<daveshah>
I don't know the GUI side of nextpnr so well, but I think there are some issues around refreshing that mean generic doesn't work well
<OmniMancer>
ah
<OmniMancer>
well update
<OmniMancer>
I have made a simple blinky
<OmniMancer>
that does a 2^25 division of the 24M input clock which blinks the LED at about once a second
<OmniMancer>
and that works
<daveshah>
Very good
<OmniMancer>
now to shave a few bits off that and see if the attosoc will go
<mangelis>
git master nextpnr gui doesn't seem to work with ecp5 either
<daveshah>
What do you mean doesn't work?
<daveshah>
Interconnect missing is a known issue with a PR by micko to fix
<daveshah>
Anything else is a bug
<mangelis>
that it's unstable
<daveshah>
Unstable?
<mangelis>
seems to crash easily, or goes into some state where buttons do nothing etc
<daveshah>
Might be worth filling an issue

I really should do more on the getting stuff upstreamed so I can better show others progress
<OmniMancer>
I think all that is standing in the way of a bitstream packer is something to write the bitfile format from the cram and any understanding of IOB bits at all
<daveshah>
You could even just copy the IOB part from a vendor bitstream with the same IO config
<OmniMancer>
yes that is another possiblity
<OmniMancer>
that would be a further step toward opensource flow but not complete so feels a little unsatisfying
<OmniMancer>
hmmm, the attosoc still does not want to go
<daveshah>
Could try a few different seeds, in case it is dodgy timing or something
<OmniMancer>
yea, I am going to add a second LED with the soc input clock which should be visible
