@lxmcf (Alex Macafee): Well my pinebook pro is on its way, currently in Melbourne getting ready for delivery, have a copy of fedora, armbian, elementary OS and chromium all at the ready! Let's be honest. I'll probably end up sticking with elementary OS. (26s ago)

emOne, Hi
<emOne>
I finally managed to boot into armbian
<emOne>
The screen is flickering like crazy but it works

<Tonymac32>
Processor?
<emOne>
S905x3
<Tonymac32>
ah, not one we actually support
<Tonymac32>
that could explain a loit
<Tonymac32>
lot*
<emOne>
It is a Chinese TV box
<emOne>
Yep
<Tonymac32>
aren't they all? :P
<emOne>
Hahah true
<Tonymac32>
I have S905X2 box, it behaved itself OK last time It ried with Balbes' image
<Tonymac32>
But I haven't tried to set it up permanently yety
<emOne>
There is a guy over at the forums that specialises in porting armbian to amlogic TV boxes
<Tonymac32>
Oleg, yes
<emOne>
Yes I am using his image
<emOne>
Balbes
<Tonymac32>
same
<Tonymac32>
;)
<Tonymac32>
I used it on the S905X2, but HDMI and Amlogic seems to be a bit shifty
<emOne>
When I use u-boot.ext from s905x2 the box boots but the screen flickers
<Tonymac32>
the X3 is an entirely different generation of SoC
<Tonymac32>
so the HDMI may be different, I haven't kept up with their half-step messy processors
<Tonymac32>
the S905(X) was the major release,. the X2 and X3 both seem problematic
<Tonymac32>
and weirdly short lived
<emOne>
I read that spec wise the x3 is very similar to the x2
<Tonymac32>
One is a G12
<Tonymac32>
the other is an SM1

<Tonymac32>
Different generations
<emOne>
Oh well that would explain a lot
<emOne>
Yea
<emOne>
The dtb seems to be alright I think
<emOne>
Because I did use it with libreelec
<emOne>
And it seemed to work as far as I remember
<Tonymac32>
HDMI is supposed to be stable mainline, however I had massive green fuzz on the S905
<Tonymac32>
(NanoPi K2
<Tonymac32>
)
<Tonymac32>
and flickering on/off every few seconds depending on the kernel
<Tonymac32>
for all Amlogic
<Tonymac32>
My last (5.7) builds did not have those issues though
<emOne>
Is it possible that it is trying to go into a video mode that the TV doesn't support?
<Tonymac32>
that is possible
<Tonymac32>
or the CEC data isn't being grabbed properly
<Tonymac32>
erm
<Tonymac32>
a 3-leter thing that I always get wrong
<Tonymac32>
DDC
<emOne>
It is flashing pretty aggressively
<emOne>
On the AV receiver the box is connected to "HDMI 3"
<emOne>
HDMI 1 is the sattelite receiver
<emOne>
Somehow when I start booting the box with the weird flashing screen
<emOne>
It even takes over the input on HDMI 1
<emOne>
I have never seen that before
<emOne>
It is pretty impressive
<emOne>
(even though the sattelite receiver is also turned on at the same time)
<emOne>
It flashes and flickers
<emOne>
I get the other HDMI input back by restarting the whole AV receiver heh
<emOne>
Tonymac32: that does sound like it is messing up with the HDMI or CEC protocol like you say

Tonymac32 are you still here?
<emOne>
You're not THE hackintosh guy by any chance?
<Werner>
I could do if a) you do a backup beforehand in case of SHTF and b) i am lacking permissions to do so.
<IgorPec>
i will do a backup but it seems i need to fix it
<IgorPec>
ERROR 1698 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'
<Werner>
Hm. MariaDB root login from localhost should always work...
<Werner>
Via terminal but not via PMA or similar tools
<[TheBug]>
only if you have a .my.cnf
<Werner>
I learned the hard way quite a while ago that MariaDB has some weird behavior in comparison to classic mysql. First it is not possible via PMA to login as root. You have to add a 2nd account and grant all privileges to it in order to use it. And for 2nd if you are root in your shell and want to "mysql" in your mariadb as root you do not need a password. You always get in.
<Werner>
Makes sense since if you are root since you could simply stop it and copy any data from the hard drive anyways if you are a evil person.
<[TheBug]>
huh? you sure your not making a ~/.my.cnf file?
<[TheBug]>
should always prompt for credentials, however, if you create a .my.cnf in ~ with user and password it will auto login
<Werner>
Pretty sure... at least i never encountered such a file
<IgorPec>
werner: try now
<Werner>
Seems to work. I'll see what I can do
<IgorPec>
ok
<IgorPec>
do slow
<Werner>
Have to. Never worked with invision, just vb2&3, wbb3 and phpbb many years ago
<Werner>
p2p and common merged
<Werner>
Interestingly enough that a "super moderator" is allowed to alter forums. vBulletin and WBB solved that by adding multiple administrator permission groups.
<IgorPec>
sadly, no experiences with those
<Werner>
They probably changed a lot in the last ten years anyways so....
