<stipa> good luck
<Church-> Aye
<Tony_mac32> Howdy
<Tony_mac32> I run RAIDZ1 on my Helios64
koutsie has joined #armbian
<Tony_mac32> 5x 4GB drives
<Tony_mac32> I moved about 2.1 TB to it in one shot from my old setup, and have it seeding Armbian images, I haven't had any issues. I was using the 5.8 kernel mentioned with zfs 0.85 or whatever the old stable was, updated to 5.9 and zfs 2 either earlier this week or maybe last week. Time has no meaning anymore
koutsie has quit [Client Quit]
<Tony_mac32> anyway, I have not had this issue. My RAM usage is high but it's primarily Transmission, SyncThing and Plex doing that

<Church-> Howdy Tony_mac32. Well good to hear, transferred another 200GB and it's fine so far. So maybe a heisenbug
<Church-> Upped my swap at least. Got a good 200GB of it heh

<Tony_mac32> haha cool
<Tony_mac32> I meant 4 TB drives of course, LOL
<Church-> Tony_mac32: Yeah mine is just gonna be a file store. zfs and nfs only. Deluge will run on my main host and that data will just be rsynced over weekly

<rrman> Guys, I have an Orange Pi, which doesn't boot, the serial doesn't write anything, and the input current seems to be very little (0.0 amps).
<rrman> Can I fix this in any way?
<Werner> sounds bricked...
<rrman> what does that exactly mean?
<Werner> try different PSU, cable, sd card and image
<Werner> if neither makes a different throw it away
<rrman> I tried all of those
<rrman> I bought it for $60, is there no hope?
<Werner> As from my pov its dead. However you can always try to reach out to xulong for replacement
<rrman> Ah... ok
<Werner> with different image I include also vendor provided images even though they are garbage. they will most likely ask you to test those anyways
<rrman> yeah I tried everything, the red light turns on but nothing else happens
<Werner> which board exactly?
<rrman> the 5V pins have power too, but the board seems dead
<rrman> orange pi 4g-iot
<rrman> its a mediatek soc
<Werner> on most opi boards the 5v pin is just shorted to power input, so this says nothing
<rrman> indeed
<Werner> didnt you ask the same question about the 4g-iot yesterday?
<rrman> yeah it was two days ago, I tried the suggestions
<rrman> the board just seems dead, I didn't find any shorts on the board
<Werner> Sorry to tell you but we cannot help you any further with it. Go reach out to the vendor. They know their hardware better anyways....or should at least :D

<Xogium> deader than dead
<Xogium> suspect you might have blew it up by sending too much voltage or amps in there
<Werner> Well too much amps would only work with too much voltage but I guess that is nitpicking :P
<Xogium> ah
<Xogium> fair enough
<Xogium> I don't know much about electricity so I might talk crap x)
<Werner> I do electrical enginerring but dont worry ;)
<Xogium> electricity-related sciences at school are freaking boring when you can't see, I'll say
<Werner> haha yeah. invisible force. like in star wars :P
<Xogium> yay, so nice, I made a circuit that powers a led ! ... that I can't see
<Xogium> the only fun one was when we powered a piezo buzzer
<Werner> overvoltage protection could be done fairly easy but I guess vendors avoid additional cost as much as possible and argue that these boards are for developers etc. only
<Werner> put a varistor in the input that shorts it and forced the PSU to break down
<Werner> s/forced/forces
<ArmbianHelper> Werner meant to say: put a varistor in the input that shorts it and forces the PSU to break down
<Xogium> meh
<Xogium> yeah, like the mcbin board, where they did not even put diodes to protect the circuit for uart, and avoid blowing it up if you connect tx to gnd
<Werner> fun fact: most industrial-grade components like PLCs have such protections while in this area you could be mostly sure that those things are handly by professionals....
<Xogium> yeah
<Xogium> I'd think it part of security, at any rate
<Werner> or inverse-polarity protection. cheap method: diode that shorts the input voltage or proper method: a small mosfet circut that flips the polarity
<Xogium> yep exactly
<Xogium> had a board where the mostfet was damaged once
<Xogium> that one was handling checking if you had plugged barrel jack power, to avoid sending any power through the usbtype c port
<Xogium> it didn't work here
<Xogium> 12v 2.5a + 5v 900 mA in your face
<Werner> still better than shorting 220 volts AC :P
<Werner> ever had a small sun in your bathroom?
<Xogium> lol no
<Xogium> must make one hell of an arc
<Werner> actually is a small ball of light that fades away in a fraction of a second and boom noise
<Xogium> holy crap
<Werner> there were worse. way worse. Was lucky enough to not being part of such accidents yet besides the one above
<Xogium> reminds me of the big transformers we had right behind our house in the city
<Xogium> every bloody time a storm hit, at some point you'd hear a mega boom
<Werner> maybe the moisture helped to a point where something shorts
<Xogium> yeah, something like it
<Werner> should not happen though if made correctly
<Xogium> I was out outside when that happened once, and when my father told me to run the hell away I did
<Xogium> the thing shot a massive fireball that rolled along our backyard
<Werner> bad things can happen with electricity. in theory if everyone would do their job properly the chances something happens would be almost zero
<Xogium> it died down after like 20 seconds or so but gosh the noise
<Werner> but as you said. you cannot see it. that is I guess why often people forgot about the danger
<Werner> and when you see it is too late
<Xogium> yep… and then we moved out to a rural area, and it turns out we have even worse power because they've decided to plug 3 entire towns on the same power grid
<Xogium> if one town consumes too much power, boom. All 3 towns go dark

<DezoHC4_> just FYI, I'm updating my box today, and during update of base-files, there is a conflict in /etc/issues and /etc/issues/net difference is -Armbian 20.11.6 Focal \l ## +Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS \n \l
<Werner> known issue. not much we can do rather than bumping our own rootfs package and revert this...
<nekomancer[m]> similar looking problem with linux mint.
