Greetz - anyone aware of issues with current master and issues with dev branch of H3 stuff?
<ashthespy>
My orangepilite doesn't boot with `Found mainline kernel configuration28997 bytes read in 7 ms (4 MiB/s)4155 bytes read in 5 ms (811.5 KiB/s)Applying kernel provided DT fixup script (sun8i-h3-fixup.scr)## Executing script at 44000000Wrong Ramdisk Image Format`
<ashthespy>
Building current to test if its something wrong on my side now..
<lanefu>
building test image for plus2e
<ashthespy>
Current also doesn't boot with same issue..
<ashthespy>
I think its something wrong on my side
<ashthespy>
Oh but wait, both dev and current are on same uboot - `U-Boot SPL 2019.10-armbian (Feb 27 2020 - 00:59:47 +0100)` is the correct?
<lanefu>
smells correct
<lanefu>
lemme look

Good news for me/us the image worked
<lanefu>
I can't believe this dude splitting hair about the documentation trying to say he *should* be able to build with debian
<lanefu>
i deleted "stop being a pain in the ass" in my draft reply like 3 times
<Tonymac32>
hahaha
<sarnold>
well done :)

<Werner>
Good morning
<lanefu>
Mornin
<Tonymac32>
I am cleaning cleaning cleaning. Phase I (completely arbitrary based on when I go to bed) is nearly complete. Grabbed low-hanging stuff like redundant audio patches
<Tonymac32>
Once it is "good enough" I'll start on Dev so we can get a shiny 5.5 kernel for next round
<Tonymac32>
or 5.6, depending I guess
<Tonymac32>
Oh, Lanefu, got a PO for some of my ESP32 boards.
<Tonymac32>
Now I wonder how slow PCBWay will be up front....
<robmur01>
for anyone who has the fundamental competence to write decent code, the rest of "upstream" is just having the right attitude and learning to get on well with maintainers
<willmore>
buZz, was that a hidden face or an aquisition?
<willmore>
It's been a decade since I've heard sunplus.
<buZz>
willmore: they renamed themselves afaik
<willmore>
And kept sunplus around for 'legacy' stuff?
<willmore>
It would explain the 'feel' of allwinner's business units always infighting.
<buZz>
i dont think they kept it around, beside for old chips that were still being sold
<c0rnelius>
robmur01: i just pulled and applied some thermal patches for the h5 off of lore.kernel.org. seem to work good. looking for some cpufreq ones.
<buZz>
oh i see backlog now
<c0rnelius>
seems like the cpufreq patches on there were pulled from armbian and slightly edited
<buZz>
that SP7021 looks interesting
<buZz>
its got a 8051!
<buZz>
:D
<willmore>
buZz, 8051? Because why not, right?
<buZz>
:0
<buZz>
:) *
<willmore>
Who doesn't like waiting 48 clock cycles for a memory access?
<buZz>
maybe they're trying to build a 'PRU'
<willmore>
4 Cortex A cores, one old v4 and, sure, why not, and 8051.
<willmore>
How fast do they run these 8051 cores, do you think? Some good fraction of the main processor? Looks like 200MHz? That may be the fastest 8051 out there. :)
<willmore>
That should move some units.
<buZz>
lol
<willmore>
Put the fastest 8051 core you can manage along with a raft of peripherials on a chip, then build in level translation and a voltage regulator to make the I/O 3.3V. Step 3: profit.
<willmore>
Sounds like something the potato people might try.
<willmore>
I'm sure there's people with old designs who loved them. :)
<willmore>
The world needs a >1GHz 8051.
<buZz>
hehe
<buZz>
well, Z80's still get used a ton
<willmore>
Who am I kidding, I bet there's one inside some other chip right now doing keyboard decode logic or something
<buZz>
last i saw was a 200mhz one
<willmore>
where do you see Z80's?
<buZz>
but i'm sure there's faster now
<buZz>
well, Z8000 or something
<buZz>
still Z80 compatible
<willmore>
Super8?
<buZz>
i see them in the ewaste of a local robot factory from time to time
<willmore>
okay.
<willmore>
At least Z80's are easy to program (if horribly slow). At least that's one better than the 8051 which was slow and horrible to program.

well just tried both the cpufreq and thermal patches on the tritium h5 and they appear to work fine and to have been already submitted. Both submitted last year. One set in Jan. and the other in Dec. :/

Cool what frequency on tritium.
<lanefu>
Or what was it solving for tritium
<c0rnelius>
well i can read the temp and set the governor now using kernels pulled from kernel.org
<c0rnelius>
if i run - sudo cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq it gives me 1008000. not sure how accurate that is though. that is me setting the governor to performance.
<c0rnelius>
was mostly concerned about thermals since this SoC gets real hot.
<c0rnelius>
currently running on 5.4.22, but it keeps hitting an error whilst trying to compile rtl8812au against the headers. So i'm going back to 5.5.6, which was working fine in that department yesterday.

armbianmonitor -z can give you actual clock results
<lanefu>
Through a 7zip test
<c0rnelius>
currently not on armbian. on my own debian build. what is the 7zip test that armbianmonitor fetches?
<IgorPec>
supporting armbian is expensive, non-armbian builds is just more, not less
<IgorPec>
you need to dig into the sources. i would also need, but ...

Ahhh another person trying to out-armbian Armbian
<c0rnelius>
whos trying out-armbian?
<IgorPec>
:)
<c0rnelius>
way easier for me to test new kernels and things this way. its all debian last time i checked?
<IgorPec>
yeas, but diganostic tools are for reasons
<IgorPec>
armbian is debian
<c0rnelius>
yeah that is just a 7zip command
<c0rnelius>
i found it, but didn't bother posting the results as i am not on Armbian
<c0rnelius>
anyway. its all good.

7z works the same on armbian as on all other distros :P
<lanefu>
buZz: yeah but armbian's test is still cooler
<buZz>
:)
<c0rnelius>
lanefu: besides friendlyelec who actually spoofs armbian?
<c0rnelius>
i know peeps will run the armbian kernel on other Distros and such.
<lanefu>
not sure.... i heard at one point dietpi was... don't think thats the case anymore

RetroOrangepi uses Armbian, but they're very transparent about it
<IgorPec>
olimex
<lanefu>
oh right
<lanefu>
yeah i felt bad beacuse olimex guy had done some decent mali work and tried to contribute back, but it needed changes and fell behind
<IgorPec>
sometimes its hard to merge. also tvboxes we fail to bring together
<IgorPec>
big problems, low resources
<lanefu>
yeah i don't see tvboxes converging at this point
<lanefu>
its kind of an awkward split IMHO
<buZz>
did armbian ever make a version for raspberry pi aswell? :)
<IgorPec>
officially not
<buZz>
:)
