<lanefu> Quoting saying its not an armbian problem and asking us to add the package
<lanefu> *quoting me
<c0rnelius> i guess they expect you to start handling the debian repo now.
<lanefu> knucklehead
<Tonymac32> lol
<Tonymac32> I can't find my HDMI audio splitter anywhere, I had it for old DVI TV's, hoping it would help me with the general purpose "Meson64 hates your monitors" issues
<lanefu> lol that sucks man
<Tonymac32> So, last night I thought my C2 patch wasn't working, but
<Tonymac32> the Potato image that had worked the night before also didn't output
<Tonymac32> so
<Tonymac32> I think it's monitor related, remember I've gone back and forth with Neil Armstrong about this a few times because my monitors are apparently terrible
<lanefu> yeah i'm using like a 24" 1080p TV
<Tonymac32> the 4K one only gets a desktop half the time, for example. The framebuffer doesn't change sizes if I plug it into the 4k then move it to the 1080p
<lanefu> so its pretty easy to test with
<Tonymac32> things like that
DaRock has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<lanefu> my 4k situation is finicky
<Tonymac32> only an Amlogic issue
<lanefu> and i dunno if its because I use a displayport KVM or what
DaRock has joined #armbian
<Tonymac32> my RK3288 is 100% on point all the time
<Tonymac32> even the RK3328 works
<lanefu> you think an astronaut would understand hdmi sound
<Tonymac32> lol Neil does the video and general purpose stuff
<Tonymac32> Jerome is handling sound
<lanefu> ahh
<lanefu> well i just had to get that Joke out of the way

<archetech> "What can I say...I like little computers" c0rnelius
<steev> hm
<lanefu> lol
<steev> that reminds me, i should try the 1366x768 stuff on odroid again
<c0rnelius> what
<c0rnelius> i like whiskey
<archetech> it dont like me
<archetech> I laugh at the above quote for no reason
<c0rnelius> well... it's a love hate relationship really.
<archetech> just funny to me
<c0rnelius> archetech: what lil computers do you like?
<c0rnelius> ha
<archetech> my old pogo I like my rock64 I hate
<c0rnelius> no one likes rk3328. we just put up with it. :)
<archetech> thats no way to have a sbc relationship must be trashed
<c0rnelius> i relegated mine to server use as it can really serve no other purpose.
<c0rnelius> kinda works as a kodi box?
<archetech> yup libreelec works nice
<c0rnelius> yeah. depending on the build.
<c0rnelius> i've decided i'm not a fan rockchip all together really. thinking about selling this nanopc-t4.
<archetech> im gonna wait for a board that everybody likes and is under $50
<lanefu> what do you want the board to do
<lanefu> what use case
<archetech> kde plasma on wayland
<lanefu> hmm
<archetech> not sold on orange pi since its rockchip
<lanefu> opi4 is
<lanefu> most are allwinner
<c0rnelius> i like allwinner.
<lanefu> i just switched to opi3 has my headless workstation with usb ssd
<archetech> but does everybody like them....no
<lanefu> pretty impressed actually
<lanefu> do nerds agree on anything?
<c0rnelius> no. ur right.
<c0rnelius> but it is coming along on the headless front i'd say
<lanefu> maybe a H5 board is what you "need"
<c0rnelius> you could always buy a pi4 and regret it afterwards ;D
<archetech> lol exactly what I got now
<lanefu> see even for a regreeful purchse, the rock64 is a better value
<lanefu> *regretful
<archetech> lol yes its less of a loss
<c0rnelius> me too. only thing i did with it was build a debian aarch64 img and now it sits here. oh wells.
<archetech> its got that going for it which is nice
<c0rnelius> i like the usb-c. thats kind of nice.
<archetech> I looked all over the web on how to build debian for rock64
<c0rnelius> i got scripts based on the libretech-builder i've been meaning to upload to github that I use for all my SoCs.
<c0rnelius> got an rk3328 one too
<archetech> deb supports like 5 boards
<archetech> non populasr
<archetech> popular
<c0rnelius> they support anything you can get to boot i thought?
<c0rnelius> really comes down to u-boot and kernel support.
<archetech> only if you have your own uboot/dtb
<c0rnelius> well thats where armbian helps
<archetech> all armbian does is repkg ayufans old stuff
<c0rnelius> they patch everything
<c0rnelius> it's all patches
<archetech> and slaps a bionic/buster on it ;/
<c0rnelius> shame it doesn't make it to the main kernel branches.
<c0rnelius> maybe it does? i don't know.
<archetech> at least armbian does what they do pretty wel ill say that
<c0rnelius> i've got no complaints, really.
<c0rnelius> i only use armbian on the nanopc-t4. i do use the armbian patches kernel on a lot of stuff though.
<c0rnelius> patched*
<archetech> the wait for a solid cheap "little computer" goes on
<c0rnelius> buy a cheap thinkpad on ebay
<lanefu> atomic pi
<c0rnelius> atomic pi is great
<lanefu> i was using it as a desktop for a while
<c0rnelius> the nas beast
<lanefu> was fine minus ram
<lanefu> just tooo many browser tabs
<c0rnelius> that is its main prob. no ram
<c0rnelius> and the hdmi out is kinda shit
<c0rnelius> but whatever
<archetech> saw it was tempting since its intel but old intel
<c0rnelius> honestly. for the price of these sbcs these days you can get a nice used thinkpad and put an ssd in it. bit tarded.
<lanefu> yeaeh no 4k
<c0rnelius> if ur in the US amazon has a great deal on the atomic pi right now. comes with everything but the PSU for less than $40.
<c0rnelius> even comes with a lil cam
<lanefu> yeah seriously is a steal now that they're bundling it
<c0rnelius> exactly
<archetech> has a power prob reputation
<c0rnelius> i've never had a problem
<lanefu> yeah same
<lanefu> if you make your power board right
<c0rnelius> but i only use mine as NAS
<lanefu> i had crazy good uptime
<c0rnelius> i think that come up before they started makin the breakout board
<c0rnelius> once the BOBs started coming out all got resolved
<archetech> newer cpu id buy it
<archetech> baytrail blah
<c0rnelius> its a limited thing archetech
<c0rnelius> prob won't be any update to that lil monster
<lanefu> plus its a robot heart
<lanefu> so like thats a perk
<archetech> some are easily impressed
<c0rnelius> it all comes down to the use case with these lil computers.
<archetech> a odroid n2 for $29 that would be ok
<c0rnelius> good luck
<lanefu> you;d be made about mainline support
<lanefu> *mad
<lanefu> speaking of mad
<archetech> whats diff?
<lanefu> neweer
<lanefu> therefore magic?
<lanefu> waiting a week usually fixes most of my problems
<archetech> lol
<c0rnelius> archetech: you know. you can compile a straight kernel and jack the dtb from armbian for better rk3328 support in some cases. some times things are off like usb3, but it does work.
<c0rnelius> guess it might depend on the board? not sure.
<archetech> yeah I swapped a bunch of stuuf
<archetech> hows this idea I wait for a really sharp owner that fixes it and explains what he did
<archetech> heh
<c0rnelius> you could throw it in the garbage.
<c0rnelius> just sayin
<archetech> nope cuz itsa good board waiting for the right person to address it
* c0rnelius looks at watch
<c0rnelius> kinda wish bsd worked better on these boards. talk about disappointment. think linux is a struggle, try that shit. my lord! ha
<c0rnelius> wes got it pretty good and armbian does a really good job considering the resources.
<archetech> just read a mail on that they were muckin around in the guts of the uboot .img files
<c0rnelius> not surprising at all
<lanefu> BSD is just like 12 insanely principled people
<c0rnelius> lanefu: which really stinks
<c0rnelius> i like bsd
<archetech> grey beards playin with toys mostly
* archetech looks in mirror
<c0rnelius> and it comes down to the diff variants. net, open, free.
<c0rnelius> and then levels of security
<c0rnelius> odd system they have goin
<archetech> prolly same guys that know cobol
<sarnold> probably the bsd folks are more familiar with C :)
<archetech> look I got cobol apps on arm
<archetech> oh yeah I got as400 apps on mine
<archetech> or MVS
<archetech> that would take the cake a mainframe OS from the 90's on an arm sbc
<archetech> z/OS
<c0rnelius> anyone watched the 'color out of space' yet?
<Tonymac32> <on-topic-rampage> GAAAHHHH my monitor somehow got muted while I was fooling around last night, my patches work flawlessle </on-topic-rampage>

<c0rnelius> lanefu: a movie based on a lovecraft short story. pretty good cosmic horror flick.
<Tonymac32> ah, lovecraft. I bought one of those boxed sets
<Tonymac32> for all the stories of The Old Ones
<c0rnelius> nice
<c0rnelius> movie wise no ever gets him right, but that was a pretty spot on venture.

<Tonymac32> Hello
<Tonymac32> lanefu those errors I was seeing were patched into the latest (5.4.22) kernel, cleaned them
<lanefu> Cool.
<Tonymac32> ah, same thing causes a hiccup in the libretech patch, I had to pull the clk-pll bit out of it
* Tonymac32 adds to list for 20.02 submission
NeuroScr has quit [Quit: NeuroScr]
<Tonymac32> If I get the time, I'll go through and split some of these changes in the big patch into smaller chunks, some of it is actually reversing patches we have in place (add_audio_sample_channel is one such case)
<Tonymac32> so we can reduce our patch count
