@TonyMac_32 (Thomas McKahan): Hello from @thepine64 Pine Book Pro. Thanks @lanefu for the latest @armbian kernel 5.8 test image! (19s ago)

I nand-sata-installed it as well, no problems
<lanefu>
forrealy?
<lanefu>
thats aewsome news
<lanefu>
trying to get standby to work
<lanefu>
i know there's bugs with sleep

does anyone know why we held MiQi at 2017 u-boot?
<lanefu>
no idear
<Tonymac32>
I can't remember if it's boot order is backward or something odd
<Tonymac32>
that board is Myy's specialty
* Tonymac32
realizes he has a USB-C dock at his desk. Looks at PBP
<lanefu>
don't get excited
<lanefu>
video wont work
<lanefu>
everything else will
<Tonymac32>
no DP?
<Tonymac32>
we should be able to remedy this
<Tonymac32>
ethernet is good, no display as you said
<Tonymac32>
wow SD insta-recognized, cool
<Tonymac32>
running iozone out of curiosity
<Tonymac32>
crappy card write was 12 MBps, read was 59 MBps
<nekomancer[m]>
as all mine A1 cards
<Tonymac32>
this isn't an A1 though, so now I need to find an A1
<Tonymac32>
OK, out with the 2017 SanDisk Ulatra C10 HC1
<Tonymac32>
on the old card it is notable that it was doing 12 on every record size
<Tonymac32>
looking at the data on it I wouldn't be able to tell you the native block size
<Tonymac32>
OK, first run on the A1 gave me some weird results
<Tonymac32>
rewrite was faster than write
<Tonymac32>
as was random write
<Tonymac32>
top number though were 20 MBps write, 60 MBps read
<nekomancer[m]>
ьфниу ше огые дшуы фищге ешьу
<nekomancer[m]>
maybe it just lies about times
<Tonymac32>
using the tkaiser recipe, so I doubt it
<Tonymac32>
you can't be that angry and not know what you're doing at the same time
<Tonymac32>
:D
<Tonymac32>
I remember some discussion about fresh cards not testing the same after some use
<Tonymac32>
increasing the data size to avoid cache issues if that's somehow sneaking in
<Tonymac32>
I was just curious about how the USB reader would work vs the SoC ones since who the hell knows what controller is in that thing. (guess I could lsusb)
<nekomancer[m]>
mistique
<lanefu>
k i disabled all the sleep/hibernate stuff... and if you close the lid the screen turns off and thats it
<lanefu>
and hopefully volume key shortcuts
<Tonymac32>
yeah, she's a wee cranky about coming back from a shut lid
<lanefu>
yeah apparently there's a deeper firmware issue per pine forums
<lanefu>
i tried to get it to like the kernel "sleep"
<Tonymac32>
unsurprising, I never tried to get sleep/wake working on anything
<lanefu>
but still need a better uboot ro something
<Tonymac32>
yes, u-boot is the culprit
sunshavi has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<Tonymac32>
it isn't logging the shutdown reason/reading the shutdown reason
<Tonymac32>
and then booting appropriately
<Tonymac32>
so it's cold starting

I am certain I'm breaking the TV box that in the build script under rk3288
<Tonymac32>
xt-q8l-v10
<Tonymac32>
but I don't know what to do with it's goofy DDR2 with the binman images from u-boot
<Tonymac32>
I'll post it up with a note tagging the csc owner
<lanefu>
wise
<lanefu>
man I really want hte dumb bootslash to wrk
<Tonymac32>
does it work on any RK3399?
<Tonymac32>
it wasn't until now I saw u-boot spit out video on an RK3288
<lanefu>
yeah it worked on kernel 5.8.9
<Tonymac32>
weird
<lanefu>
on the PBP
<lanefu>
it was sweet
<Tonymac32>
and agreed
<lanefu>
yeah some definite boot screen kernel 5.8.10 drama
<Tonymac32>
aren't there supposed to be no real changes in the .y portion of the kernel increments? only bugfixes?
<Tonymac32>
if the M4F is totally accessible that's somewhat interesting from a controls standpoint
<Tonymac32>
ROFL the comments section: "WhY Is It MorE $$ thAn An RpI?!?!?!"
<Tonymac32>
because there is a solid chance it isn't a complete pile of trash
<Tonymac32>
NXP chips are pricey, no getting around it
<Tonymac32>
I was presented this board by another chat group for those CH55x USB micros. I think this would be a better invest than the Chameleon96, which is a shame, that board is gorgeous, but Quartus and Intel FPGA stuff in general is a nightmare
<Tonymac32>
I very much dislike the 96boards standard
<Tonymac32>
sockets on the main board, 2mm pitch (because we all have those lying about)
<Tonymac32>
I actually have some plugs for 2mm because of the mini2440, but I don't have any pins to go in that dumb socket
<Tonymac32>
the chameleon kind of addresses that a little by having a 2.54mm UART header
<lanefu>
isnt the voltage standard lower too
<lanefu>
for gpio
<Tonymac32>
if you're on the socket, yeah 1.8V
<Tonymac32>
I haven't checked the included UART with this board to see if it's 1.8 or 3.3 since it's not part of that header
<Tonymac32>
In any case, I'm rambling and generally just being negative. I hope I can make that board do something, but so far all I've accomplished was a 25 GB download of some Intel tools
<Tonymac32>
ok ok hyperbole
<Tonymac32>
3 GB of setup files
<Tonymac32>
I need to get this i.MX6ULL board running before I mess with an i.MX8M
<Tonymac32>
I keep aggravating my thumb, while working on that conduit mess today I slipped and kind of side-punched a rotten piece of plywood edge-on
<Tonymac32>
spent 20 minutes cutting out splinters
<Tonymac32>
thankfully my pain tolerance is quite high, my daughter was there when I did it, wanted to see the splinters
<Tonymac32>
XD
<Tonymac32>
lanefu that i.MX8M should have a single PCIe2 lane
<Tonymac32>
but they don't mention it in the board info so probably not broken out.
<Tonymac32>
quad-spi with XIP, nice. Also not on this board I think
<Tonymac32>
20x I2S ROFL. Time to do <anything but audio> with those
<nekomancer[m]>
my thinkpad can to wait for 15 seconds after closing lid, go to sleep, then, aftr time, like a hour or 2, do suspend to disk, and wake up when I open lid, and continue all application, excluding open tcp connections. With windows, for sure. that means it is possible. And it is useful.
<Tonymac32>
of course it is. It's just not one of the well-documented functions from our Rockchip friends
<Tonymac32>
and the handoff from kernel to U-boot can be fun
<nekomancer[m]>
<lanefu "man I really want hte dumb boots"> let it just show boot log, as id did fathers and grandfathers
<Tonymac32>
640k OK
<lanefu>

hey IgorPec we got the build list for the iso
<rneese>
so I now have a smaller build liest
<lanefu>
mornin

morning
<rneese>
so after days of working on this I got ahold of the ubuntudde group and got the list
<rneese>
and I about have the install ready for a new test
<rneese>
should we use the slick greater or lightdm
<rneese>
and do we use ibus ?
<lanefu>
no ibus packages
<lanefu>
just basic dbus packages for desktop builds

lanefu: may ask you something about bluetooth? I saw you recently worked with
<lanefu>
jock: yep
<lanefu>
i'll try. don't really know much to be honest
<jock>
did you use hciattach/bt_attach or the kernel sercom framework? On my rk3288 box I have the AP6330 (that's an abg broadcom 4330 + bluetooth), using hciattach everything works but I don't really like having the userland involved
<rneese>
IgorPec, let me know when you load it up on a board
<IgorPec>
rneese: yeah, i gound on debian cli but its not working there. have to find ubuntu
<rneese>
ok
<rneese>
well at the min I had only done ubuntu
<rneese>
as it dseems debian install is a bit of a bugger
<rneese>
I will work on it next
<jock>
lanefu: made some experiments with the kenrel sercom framework to interface it to the UART. It seems to work up to a point, but then I can't probe for bluetooth devices...
<jock>
lanefu: ah ok, np. I'll take a look anyway, maybe I'll find some clues... ;)
<rneese>
hey IgorPec wht transmission over qbittorrent ?
<IgorPec>
i personally use transmission
<rneese>
ok
<IgorPec>
don't even know qbittorrent
<rneese>
basicly linux version of qtorrent
<IgorPec>
and qtorrent is ? :)
<rneese>
lol ok
<IgorPec>
aha, i saw that before
<IgorPec>
it also has ads?
<rneese>
i dont recall it having them

ok, anyway, transmission is just fine i would say

yes as until you mirror it and make it in the build I will have to add to the script
<IgorPec>
perhpaps thatis a problem?

<rneese>
so we are wooking to a 20.11 now
<rneese>
geesh
<rneese>
this is a moving target
<Werner>
Hm. lanefu have you checked the image for the files that script creates? As far from what I can see is that either they are all there or none for unknown reason.
<Werner>
Maybe the trigger is skipped for whatever reason
<IgorPec>
lanafu: umount or rebootr
<IgorPec>
lanefu
<lanefu>
cool... yeah.. patching server and rebooting
<IgorPec>
sometimes those mounts are not clearly unmounted if you break compilatio
<lanefu>
yeah makes sense.. i thikn i've ran into that before
<lanefu>
and i've definetly interrupted some things
<lanefu>
my build/cache folder is tmpfs so it'll be nice and clean on reboot
<Werner>
Actually a pretty good idea. I do not use most of the 64gb of memory the vps has
<lanefu>
in my fstab armbian_cache /home/lane/GIT/build/cache tmpfs nodev,noatime,nodiratime,size=80G 0 0
