<amoney> how can i mount the .iso image that the compile produces?
Redentor has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<[TheBug]> huh?
<[TheBug]> what are you trying to do?
<[TheBug]> if you mean can you mount an image, you would use a loo device
<[TheBug]> loop*
<[TheBug]> but you also have to find offset in partition table and set that
<[TheBug]> etc
<amoney> thanks

<amoney> i modified imx6.conf to compile kernel 5.12-rc4 and it cannot find the Makefile
<amoney> how can i build the latest from git??
<IgorPec> what is your goal?
<IgorPec> if your imx6 board doesn't work with 5.10.y it will not work with 5.12.y
<IgorPec> the problem you have is most likely wrong u-boot init and/or wrong DT configuration.
<amoney> the developers have recently made changes to parts of the drivers
<IgorPec> yes, but that should be in 5.11.y
<amoney> yes you are correct
<amoney> thanks for link
<amoney> one of those developers broke pcie support and its enabled by default in kernel config
<IgorPec> i don't recall how is the situation with this board since I have retire all my imx6 boards except one Cubox
<IgorPec> iirc pci used to work on hummingboard
<amoney> i could not even test the official image from the hardware developers they use kernel 4.x and u-boot gave a problem
<IgorPec> yeah, welcome to arm single board computers :)
<amoney> what you mean by single board?
<IgorPec> "single board computers" in general
<IgorPec> we classsify them this way
<IgorPec> raspberry pi clones would not be fair
<amoney> what is the best board right now?
<IgorPec> it depends from use case
<IgorPec> fastest is usually bulky, consume a lot, have things you might not need ...
<amoney> its a shame the manufacturer failed on this board, armbian did a better job
<IgorPec> this is the same with other manunfacturer
<IgorPec> some provide even less support
<amoney> i also have emmc 8GB and it is not detected?
<amoney> pcie controller is needed for that or something else?
<IgorPec> i think you have to use correct boot loader
<IgorPec> for emmc?
<IgorPec> emmc is just a soldered SD card connected via SDIO
<amoney> i tried the latest u-boot git and it gave m
<amoney> black screen
<IgorPec> but i am not much familiar / i forgot how this is done on imx6
<IgorPec> mainline u-boot?
<amoney> yes
<amoney> the latest 2021
<IgorPec> oh, that's extreme optimisim :)
<IgorPec> if board is not well supported, there is no way for mainline u-boot support
<amoney> so much potential with this one
<IgorPec> we only succeded with allwinner to provide almost perfect coverage with mainline u-boot
<IgorPec> there is ofc a few patches here and there, but most of the code is mainline
<amoney> would you like to see a video of my board setup?
<IgorPec> if you have it already
<amoney> yes
<amoney> m.2 drive installed but cannot boot from it
<IgorPec> probably not
<IgorPec> but from emmc it should be possible
<IgorPec> i have a few of those boards, but all have some trouble
<IgorPec> what do you have on pci?
<IgorPec> some hipower wifi?
<amoney> how can i troubleshoot the emmc?
<amoney> have you used that?
<IgorPec> no, mine emmc also never worked
<amoney> lol
<amoney> fail
<IgorPec> but at least i got board donated from someone that received fixed board from solidrun
<IgorPec> so it was hw failure of some sort
<amoney> the forums for solidrun cannot be accessed
<IgorPec> they are dead anyway
<IgorPec> for years
<amoney> damn
<amoney> not good
<IgorPec> i know
<amoney> i have the other board clearfog
<IgorPec> why do you think armbian exists? :)
<IgorPec> clearfog is better supported since there is larger hw based on that
<amoney> but openwrt is for clearfog
<IgorPec> that chip is well supported in mainline
<IgorPec> but it also took several years
<IgorPec> clearfog base looks similar to this hummungboard 2
<amoney> i can swap them from hummingboard 2 to clearfog
<IgorPec> if you can, do it
<IgorPec> you will save a loooooot of time
<amoney> you think quadcore 1ghz is better than 1.6ghz dualcore?
<amoney> in 2017 when i got these boards they looked to be the best looking and neatest design
<IgorPec> they are both obsolete / old from todays perspective
<IgorPec> but you don't have a choice
<IgorPec> software support is the key
<amoney> which board will you buy now?
<IgorPec> i don't buy them ;)
<IgorPec> but again, for what purpose?
<amoney> which board will you steal then?
<IgorPec> usually they throw boards at us
<amoney> which board will you use like a small linux computer?
<IgorPec> again you are missing the point why armbian exists
<IgorPec> there is so much crap on the market
<IgorPec> which looks nice on paper
<IgorPec> boards that we tag as supported are solid, some better, some worse
<IgorPec> if you go outside this, you need a lot of time, money and patience
<IgorPec> currently, something that works resanoble well, something around RK3399
<amoney> it seems like to contact solidrun you need to be a company
<amoney> Firefly-RK3399 looks very cool
<IgorPec> now i will start to charge for advices
<IgorPec> perhaps then you will start to listen ;)
<IgorPec> "supported"
<IgorPec> if you will be chooseing with eyes, you will buy another paper weight device that nobody supports

<amoney> anyways how can i build kernel 5.12
stipa_ has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<IgorPec> add variable that you want to override to userpatches/lib.config
<stipa> who on earth would like to build an 5.12?
<amoney> they have updates to my hardware so i need it
neurotoxiN has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
<stipa> amoney: what hardware?
<stipa> amoney: which SBC?
<amoney> whats SBC?
<stipa> Single Board Computer
<amoney> the great Hummingboard 2 Edge
<amoney> pcie and emmc does not work
<stipa> amoney: https://www.armbian.com/hummingboard-2/ is supported
<stipa> maybe that "edge" is something extra
<amoney> in the picture it shows the Edge
<amoney> thats the one i got
<stipa> download and try that image, everything extra won't work in many cases
<amoney> i have 2 of these and both have same problem
<stipa> if al your research led you to Armbian
<[TheBug]> stipa: yeah there are a bunch of models all same SoC but different peripherals so we have a vanilla image that 'kinda' works for all them but for specific hardware like mpcie you have to build it in your self.. thats what he has been trying to do...
<stipa> a yeah [TheBug] sounds like chaniging of hardware
<stipa> with every version
<stipa> yeah amoney it sucks
<[TheBug]> amoney: on a serious note did y ou try building the vendor kernel?
<amoney> ok the big fix is this patch here
<stipa> some SBC manufacturers change hardware on the boards once in a while
<stipa> and software has to follow it
<[TheBug]> A lot of times the specific kernel or SDK package for the board will include those drivers already enabled
<[TheBug]> if you just need to get mpcie working it could be the easiest path
<amoney> so i deadly need kernel 5.12-rc4
<[TheBug]> youll likely need to build it your self as I don't know if we are building for rc*
<amoney> yea it looks like few files need to be changed
<amoney> it failed on compression of kernel
<[TheBug]> is there a reason you need a mainline kernel and have not tested the legacy kernel from the vendor for this?
<[TheBug]> some software limitation or such?
<amoney> big fix
<amoney> in boot
<amoney> and i can even try the never u-boot
<amoney> solidrun git outdates
<[TheBug]> I guess what I am asking is the images they provide for that board didn't come with all the peripherals enabled for it already?
<[TheBug]> like pcie and emmc?
<[TheBug]> I mean I understand they are old but I am now more curious if there is an implementation where this works outside actual 'theory'
<stipa> probably not, amoney wouldn't be here
<[TheBug]> not per se true
<[TheBug]> for example EBin was semi stable on the vendors software
<stipa> he did a research
<[TheBug]> but there were limtations to what could run on the older kernel software wise
<[TheBug]> thats why I am asking, is it a software thing or is it just don't want to run legacy
<amoney> got 2 hummingboard 2 Edge which is pictured on armbian site and we just need to fix pcie and emmc
<stipa> erm
<stipa> if it's on the armbian site and it's suported
<stipa> than it should work
<amoney> it never worked
<amoney> needs new u-boot
<stipa> amoney: try to ask on the forums, there are some peeps that are not here that work on dev
<stipa> amoney: there is maybe forum section for th board you have
<lanefu> "should" lol
<stipa> who said that?
<stipa> who's to blame?
pjuck has joined #armbian
<stipa> hi pjuck
<pjuck> hi
<[TheBug]> um amoney
<[TheBug]> here is why I ask
<[TheBug]> Working:
<[TheBug]> HDMI, Audio, Wifi, Bluetooth, USB, Sata, Pcie Modem, Gpio's.
<[TheBug]> so I assume pcie would work there
<stipa> lanefu: lol
<stipa> lanefu: i try to keep my self out of trouble
<[TheBug]> he includes his patches and all there he used as well
<stipa> lanefu: i believe that what ever is supportd for atleast two years should work, every other abnormalities are probably electronics fault or change of hardware on a sbc
<[TheBug]> Keep on believing stipa!
<[TheBug]> one day.. maybe.. just maybe...
<stipa> well
<stipa> tbh i'm bored without kerenel panic on opi lite 2
<[TheBug]> Do you believe you can fly? If so, step away from the ledge!
<stipa> well ok
<stipa> tbh i haven't worked in the support department
<amoney> that was in 2017
<amoney> it was working
<stipa> i'm just the u(luser)
<[TheBug]> amoney: we archive older images...
<amoney> oh
<[TheBug]> findd your board and you can try older images including legacy / mainline
<amoney> thanks
<[TheBug]> oldest are 2019 but y ou can at least give it a try
<[TheBug]> also
<[TheBug]> the vendor does supply images
<[TheBug]> though doesn't make it clear what their images support
<[TheBug]> which is kinda silly
<[TheBug]> but you could try them as well if you are desperate ;p
<amoney> and 5.12 will build
<amoney> so
<amoney> ver[3]=$(grep "^EXTRAVERSION" "${1}"/Makefile | head -1 | awk '{print $(NF)}' | grep -oE '^-rc[[:digit:]]+')
<amoney> this tells me its already support
<amoney> well i decided not to change files in the lib folder
<amoney> i will just make a patch
<amoney> where do i place a patch for the kernel
<amoney> userpatches does not work
<lanefu> amoney: its hard to get the path right
