<kuloo> hello, buddies! I think I need some help. According to the steps available on https://www.armbian.com/rk322x-tv-box/ I should "Burn the Multitool on an SD card; once done, place the Armbian image in images folder of the SD card FAT partition". The question is: can I perform this step on a USB stick instead of a SD card?

<kuloo> could please anybody help me?
<[TheBug]> No, SDCard and that is only if the specific u-boot on the TV box even supports booting off of SDcard. That will depend box to box.
kuloo has quit [Quit: Ping timeout (120 seconds)]
<[TheBug]> You can pivot rootfs off of a USB stick after setup, but you will still boot from sdcard
<[TheBug]> or just quit
<[TheBug]> lol
<[TheBug]> probably bad connection :Z

<chewitt> @IgorPec is there any reason why none of the Khadas boards are in the Armbian list?
<chewitt> I spotted some user Q's asking for Armbian on VIM3 boards in their forum
<buZz> are there any other boards with A311D supported?
<buZz> there's a custom image of armbian for that vim3
<buZz> > Armbian Ubuntu/Debian image built by balbes150, thanks balbes150.
<buZz> of course their website doesnt actually link to it or providei t
<buZz> but they do claim it exists
<chewitt> I thought Oleg abandoned support for Khadas devices due to their use of CoreELEC and his issues with their team members
<chewitt> I'm aware of a couple of other A311D boards, but all aimed at pro/industrial use, nothing consumer oriented
<IgorPec> chewitt: no special reason. we don't have them much around
<IgorPec> personally i don't have any
<chewitt> I use them a lot for testing
<IgorPec> i have lots of others for testing :)
<IgorPec> just not khadas
<chewitt> It's handy to have S905X, S912, S905X3 and S922X/A311D in the same format (same PSU) etc.
<IgorPec> i didn't pay much attnetion since balbes was covering that and he was in contact with them
<IgorPec> well, i tottally agree
<chewitt> If you'd ever like samples to aid non-Oleg support in Armbian, let me know..
<IgorPec> ok, tnx. actually for CI would come handy right away
<buZz> if balbes didnt share his work
<buZz> i'd say the board is just unsupported completely
<chewitt> I guess depends on kernel source
<chewitt> If using "mainline" kerne/u-boot Odroid C4/N2 and VIM3L/VIM3 are basically identical to support, only the FIP sources are different
<chewitt> I think I ran out of device-tree things to upstream for Khadas :)
<chewitt> fixes problem reboots on all the Amlogic boards I have
<chewitt> also btw, lots of panfrost related kernel things didn't make 5.12 so out-of-tree patching is still needed
<chewitt> feel free to raid https://github.com/chewitt/linux/commits/amlogic-5.12.y for anything that mentions lima/panfrost
<buZz> oh right, these boards have video output
* buZz keeps forgetting that ppl actually use that
<IgorPec> thanks chewitt. adding them
<IgorPec> buzz Lol
<buZz> :)

<AnimeDev> Hello, im new and have a quick question... So im currently having an issue with the opi zero2 and i understand it has limited support as of now, however the image was marked as "suitable for testing" so i desided to test it but i am finding lots of networking issues with it, i would like to supply as much info as i can to get this sorted, but as
<AnimeDev> the board is not supported i can't do that with a bug report, what would be the best place to report this? (i also kinda want to know if it would be my boards issue or the image ;) )
<AnimeDev> oh
<AnimeDev> so basically you'd rather have nobody reporting it even if im willing to put some time in testing etc... kinda sad but ok i got it...
<IgorPec> dear "customer". you pay nothing for this software you use
<AnimeDev> never claimed im a customer and i did offer to contribute however my linux knowledge is limited however i am a developer and hardware designer, so not an average noob, but the post linked made it very clear you do not want help, can't complain then i don't "pay" anything can you, also how would you know if i donated or not? not to be disrespectful
<AnimeDev> but you kinda sounded offensive
<IgorPec> it is very clear we don't want more costs
<IgorPec> the rest is a product of your imagination. we want your help, just not the way you choose to help
<Werner> The message is mostly to scare away end users which expect help for problems we cannot solve. You can still report your findings on the mentioned topic and maybe get in touch wich jerney and Andre who both were involed writing initial support for H616
<AnimeDev> IgorPec i don' get what you mean with "we don't want more costs"? care to elaborate? or am i missing something?
<IgorPec> project already have a lot of costs and users only cover them up to 0.5%
<IgorPec> while you want more and more and more and more
<IgorPec> if i want to talk with "you" i have to skip my paid projects
<IgorPec> is that clear?
<AnimeDev> Werner oh well it scared me off :D  ill see what i can do on my own as to not bother the people working on it too much.
<IgorPec> what about asking "how can i help" ?
<IgorPec> btw. for testings we don't need humans
<Werner> It might also be worth taking a look at certain mailing lists (u-boot, kernel, atf) and check for new stuff coming around. I follow them from time to time
<AnimeDev> well when i read the forum i noticed "i don't have the board rn" so i figured maybe you did, apparently i was wrong
<IgorPec> time is the biggest problem
<IgorPec> and also i burned my board, which is the smallest problem
<Werner> I have one laying around as well but I mostly follow my own advice with it: let it collect dust so I dont need to wipe down those few square centimeter where it is :D
<AnimeDev> true i know that lacking time is a big issue from personal experience, so don't let me take any more of yours:)  ill follow werners advice and first read up some stuff and do some research. Have a nice day!
<Werner> have a good one
<Werner> "But I want everybody to be aware of because _if_ it bites you, it bites you hard, and you can end up with a filesystem that is essentially overwritten by random swap data. This is what we in the industry call 'double ungood'."
<Werner> A warning from Linus not to use 5.12-rc1
<IgorPec> yeah, until we get there its going to be fixed
<Werner> yup, most likely
<IgorPec> this is mainly a problem for archlinux
