anyone here have an odroid c4 and perhaps have used the gpio as a pps input?
<mybit>
As of today all of the Armbian default kernel configurations now include pps-gpio as a module by default so no custom kernel builds will be required. Simply configuring 'overlay=pps-gpio' in /boot/armbianEnv.txt will make this available. Optionally param_pps_* may be used to configure, such as pin.
<mybit>
im curious if anyone has input on the "param_pps_*" config
<Tony_mac32>
if you get a proper antenna for a base station, you can communicate for a few km
<flyback>
cool
<flyback>
there's ham radio too but out gov is too stupid to amend laws on encryption over ham
<Tony_mac32>
yep
<flyback>
I don't even care about the messages, I just want it for the auth packets
<flyback>
but nope
<mybit>
signing != encryption

<Fleck>
Hey IgorPec, sorry, dunno if you said something yesterday, was AFK and only have ~200 lines of history. Anyway, trying to copy chromium out of snap dirs, uninstalling it and then running it manually :D dooh, whoever did this is, sorry, dumb...
<ArmbianHelper>
AR-283 [Task] "Discuss how to deal with snap in Ubuntu" reported by Werner at 2020-05-26. Status: To Do
<Fleck>
I kinda like the idea, but, its not working good....
<IgorPec>
snapd?
<IgorPec>
or flatpack?
<IgorPec>
or docker? :)
<Fleck>
snapd
<IgorPec>
well, concept has some good points
<Fleck>
yep, agree!
<IgorPec>
but there is always but :)
<Fleck>
yeah, in my case it was more or less OK at the beginning, then it started launching really slow, like 3min to wait before webpage loads for the first tim
<Fleck>
e
<IgorPec>
because of snapd or because chromium is broken?
<IgorPec>
both are hude layers we don't touch
<IgorPec>
huge
<Fleck>
idk maybe both, but, what I found out was that snapd dir was already past 2GB... insane, armbian install was 1+ smthn :D
<Fleck>
so ofc, those long startup times took to download all of this...
<IgorPec>
yes. snapd is totally inappropriate for those boards
tehircz has quit [Ping timeout: 272 seconds]
<Fleck>
IgorPec: yeah, it's really not good for small arm computers, but, I wouldn't like it on PC also... thats just wrong!
<IgorPec>
i use linux mint as my main desktop
<IgorPec>
so, no snapd there
<IgorPec>
chromium comes from debian repo, works

<HerculeP>
snap is evil ;)
<Fleck>
yeah so, what are my options to run chromium outside of snap?
<HerculeP>
get it from debian buster (google chromium ubuntu without snap or similar)
<IgorPec>
no, 100% warranty that you can install chromium with those instructions
<IgorPec>
if you want me to fix debian bugs in live sessions, its 500 USD per hour
<IgorPec>
so you will do that alone i expect
<IgorPec>
and you use some development builds which could be fuck* up ... there is 0 warranty
<Fleck>
so we need to make a deal then, some paper work, and I need account number plz
<IgorPec>
nope, figurative speaking. don't have time for this
<Fleck>
yeah well, that did not work for me, yes I have installed chromiun now, it even opens, but I am getting AW SNAP page

<wooster>
on kernel-rockchip 28c018740a5b
<lanefu>
i do see error messages in container logs.. digging
<wooster>
igorpec: i think i got the bootsplash patches more or less fixed up. building now
<rneese>
grab this file and put it in /etc/X11 and reboot
<wooster>
happy to open a PR if you tell me what the base should be
<IgorPec>
ok
<rneese>
this seems to fix some video issues i found on rk chips
<wooster>
whether or not it works remains to be seen
<rneese>
if it all works else wise we are good
<rneese>
but that xorg should fix thigns
<ikmaak>
the window effects solve a lot
<rneese>
yeah
<ikmaak>
what does the xorg do?
<rneese>
it miovies from frambuffer to DRI andenables 3d support
<rneese>
its the same as tthe pinebookpro
<rneese>
videos play cleaner
<rneese>
I am working to have it installed on machinges that will support
<rneese>
next version I hope to have it and a asound.conf file in place
<rneese>
and that should finish things

<ikmaak>
is there a command to test?
<ikmaak>
it does still tear when scrolling in the settings
<wooster>
i built the legacy rockchip with the bootsplash patches but still no boot splash :(
<wooster>
bootlogo=true in armbianEnv
<ikmaak>
videos do not play
<rneese>
ikmaak, give me a small video of the effect your talking about
<rneese>
I have not seen any tearing on my t4
<rneese>
i have played youbue with no issue
<rneese>
woundering if there are some m4 issues to be delt with
<ikmaak>
ow, youtube. i did not find the browser yet
<rneese>
youhave to use git and install firefox

ah, my first vid was hevc
<ikmaak>
now it plays ok with a mp4
<rneese>
ok
<rneese>
I have not tested hevc
<ikmaak>
now i will test with a higer res mkv
<rneese>
ok how much ram
<rneese>
2 or 4 gig
<ikmaak>
choppy in 1080p 4gb
<rneese>
odd test my mv the xorg and reboot
<rneese>
and play same video
<rneese>
let me know
<rneese>
but the dri should render better
<rneese>
it is the better of the drivers
<rneese>
i know youtube plays better on the dri
<rneese>
thanks for testing btw
<rneese>
my tv I am attached to is 1080p
<rneese>
wooster wht using the old 4.4 lrgacy and not current ?
<ikmaak>
you mean remove the xorg.conf?
<ikmaak>
just getting a repair man over
<wooster>
if i build current, my SPI display does not come up.
<wooster>
would be happy to use current
<rneese>
ikmaak, yes I want to know how well it plays for you on FB vs dri
<rneese>
ok
<rneese>
I am waiting on repair guy here also my fridge gave out
vunderclop is now known as wunderclop
<rneese>
had to put everytiihng on ice
<rneese>
nt happy
<rneese>
I think I have lost about 150 in food
<ikmaak>
wow!
<rneese>
as it looks like freon/ cooler gave out but fam kept blowing aid and thawed things out
<ikmaak>
with me it was just someone replacing a radiator, and finding out he came with a heavily damaged one
<rneese>
ouch
<ikmaak>
i just tried the armbian-reconfigure without the x11, it still is yellow
<ikmaak>
well, he just replaced the old one, and went to get replacement
<ikmaak>
could take some more days
<rneese>
frodd
<rneese>
odd
<rneese>
never seen it in yello
<rneese>
if you did it from outside x the I dont know but in x its also yellow
<rneese>
odd
<rneese>
ok using a terminal it does show in yeloow but from console its blue
<rneese>
have to look into that
<rneese>
that has to be a terminal setting
<ikmaak>
hmm, i just tested video, i saw no real difference
<rneese>
ok
<rneese>
odd its working like a charm on the pct4
<rneese>
so now I need others to test other boars
<ikmaak>
maybe i need to look into settings
<rneese>
the xu4 is currently armhf and we dont have armhf pkgs
<rneese>
if you use terminal you have to select a theme
<rneese>
and the armbia-config uses that theme
<rneese>
by default its set to a yellow theme
DaRock has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<ikmaak>
yes, via ssh i get normal theme
<rneese>
ok so today is going down hill ... so I will like anyone who has these devices lepotato/n4/n4+/c2/c4/pine64 and others found in this dir http://armbian.lane-fu.com/rneese/
<ikmaak>
rneese: make a list of devices you want ppl to test on, and which tests to run exactly, then ppl are more willing to
<rneese>
to test and you will most likly have to disable the windows effects
DaRock has joined #armbian
<rneese>
at the me we just want basic use testing
<rneese>
and a review of the over all gui
<rneese>
i have to step away
<rneese>
but I will try to get back today
<ikmaak>
good luck man!
<rneese>
have to go run the animal food service this am
<ikmaak>
i like the gui, not clear what it is though
<rneese>
we do it every friday
<rneese>
oits called deeepin
<rneese>
deepin
<ikmaak>
not bad
<rneese>
once this is done I qill get budgie on par
<rneese>
so then we will have 3 desktops
<ikmaak>
i have to confess, i do not know both of them
<rneese>
well budgie and dde are new to ubuntu
<rneese>
I wimm also get cinnamon working
<ikmaak>
i normally use debian
<rneese>
we have haad issues on debian so we have to iron them out
<rneese>
I think debian is mate/gnome/kde/lxde
<rneese>
so we will get there
<rneese>
ok out for now
<rneese>
bbl
<ikmaak>
huh, after reboot i got no bottom bar...
<ikmaak>
later
<rneese>
did you autohide it
<rneese>
or did it just come up slow
<ikmaak>
not that i know
<rneese>
ok
<rneese>
odd
<ikmaak>
rebooting again
<rneese>
keep notes
<ikmaak>
back ok, with bar :s

@armbian (armbian): Armbian build system received an option to assemble images from prebuilt packages which drastically improves build time in case you don't need to rebuild kernel or u-boot. Also added support for @ubuntu 20.10 Groovy. #armbian #linux #buildsystem https://t.co/TNt4vprBLKhttps://t.co/LrfhYd3QSw (1s ago)
